I am on my THIRD Streak, all free via O2

First one wouldn't turn on, then the replacement had a black mark on the camera lens (internal) so every picture had a black smudge. So O2 did a "door step replacement" as I only had it for two days before I reported it.

Just one so far and it's been flawless (until now when it will inevitably develop a fault!)

Just the one (unlocked from Dell direct) - although I have noticed a dead pixel which bugs me - but not enough to chase up a warranty replacement and endure the pain of no phone for however long it takes them to fix it (assuming it would even be covered).

Will probably get a second for the missus who seems drawn to the big screen.

I do begin to wonder about quality control ...

Luckily no problems with this unlocked direct from Dell one so far... I've had it in an Amzer jelly case since new - perhaps that's helped?

It might be worth putting together a list of serial no ranges in case it can be narrowed down to a particular batch...

I'm on my 3rd streak. First one battery was never detected, second one had a bad screen calibration. third one works perfectly. I was overnighted a replacement each time.

Hi all

Well i voted two although strictly speaking that's not quite true my first 02 branded and locked bought from CPW one developed a hardware fault and i was forced to deal with Dell as neither 02 or CPW would even deal with me then through numerous mishaps with dealing with Dell it took 29 days for me to receive a replacement. So then from the Dell repair centre i got a refurbished unit that had a small scratch above the buttons on the front a big paint chip on the Battery door and a scratch on the speaker grill after which i really was not amused and complained vigorously to Dell Executive customer support who where already dealing with it for me due to all the delays i had suffered . So as compensation for all my suffering and being without my device for nearly a month owing to how long this all took and what had happened i then received a brand new 32GB Unlocked Unbranded Streak from Dell and am still waiting for them to arrange collection of the refurbished unit even though i have asked 3 times now. So really its only two IMO as i didn't even start up the damaged replacement as there was no way i was going to accept it under any circumstances i also now have two sync/charge cables, two chargers and two batteries now as they only want the Streak back nothing else which all went a long way toward compensation for what i had to go through getting it all sorted out and really hope i don't have any problems again.

My first one developed a problem with the menu button, it would no longer trigger.

3 day turnaround and I'm on the second unit.

I've noticed my battery life with the new one is WAY better, I wonder if they've been making hardware corrections in the later units.

Just one here - bought it from Carphone Whorehouse pretty much on a whim one day.

I don't really 'get' what people are saying re the build quality - I think it's pretty darn good (although not to the level of HTC phones). I've dropped the device four times, picked it up and carried on using it.

The only issue I noticed was that after the last time I dropped it, the Home button stopped accepting presses - and seem to push itself automatically (video:

) - however, I was glad to discover that rebooting the phone solved this problem!

Hi Ellis Grouse,

I agree i also think build quality is very good i have no issues with mine at all its build quality far exceeds the feel of the Galaxy S i have and is as good if not better then any of my previous devices although up to now i haven't dropped mine and hope not to either and the screen quality i actually rate as being the best i have i used or seen on any device.

Still on my first AWS capable streak. Have no intent of ever letting Dell get their hands on it.

Just one - BUT - although it survived being thrown face up on to the marble floor of a lift when someone shut the door on me while it was in my hand, it didn't survive when I got out of my car (a 4x4 so quite high up) forgetting I had it on my lap. It fell face down at least 3 foot or so onto a bricked driveway :) ; slightly uneven bricks so it will have hit an edge too. Actually it sort of did still work - but the glass was completely cracked all the way across. I was amazed it stayed in place, in fact. I even managed to send a couple of texts from it before deciding that I was about to get a sliver of glass in my finger. Waiting for it back from Carphone Warehouse along with a £157 bill. I really hope it doesn't have to go back to Dell but at least it doesn't go near O2. It's definitely a tough bit of kit though.

Third one here. Both previous ones suffered from the same problem: LCD screen cracking under pressure internally (that is, the gorilla glass is in perfect condition, but the LCD under it was toast). One time while charging on my night stand, one time in my pocket, so clearly not a factor of misuse or pressure. Worried the same fate will happen to this unit, but until then this unit seems to be the best one so far in terms of build quality. So maybe this will be the lucky break. Or, not break? The lucky one that doesn't break?

Second. First one was a beta unit with overheating problems that made it essentially useless. Bought it second hand too. Boy was that an expensive mistake.

Though I am really starting to get paranoid from hearing all these stories of the screen cracking without any pressure... Bought mine from a reseller, don't want to test how the dell warranty process works in that situation!

TWO for me, but not cos the first ones broke. I wanted to use a Streak so badly I got one on contract from O2, just whilst i found a good one of ebay, then returned the O2 one in their 14 day moneyback guarentee...bit cheeky i know

Also on my third.

The first had an issue with the glass where it scratched incredibly easily... we're talking ridiculous care taken to look after it but it somehow still managed to get several(!) scratches on the screen. The earpiece also came unstuck on the bottom.

The second had a serious issue with the double sided tape holding the earpiece down. There were 0 problems with the display.

The third is my current unit, it has major problems with reception which I have tested on O2 and my current network T-mobile. T-mobile now also shares the orange network so if anything reception should be exceptional. For comparison purposes my Galaxy S has zero problems in this area on the same network and in the same location. The Streak has shown the random vibrating uncontrollably and it has failed to activate the screen after unlocking (requiring removal of the battery) on more than one occasion.

The screen seems fine (toughness) but the earpiece is creaking which was the precursor to the problems I had with the earpiece plastic on the last two handsets.

The first 2 were from O2 the last was from Dell direct and I will be contacting Dell to see if they can sort out the reception issue. I can live with the creaking etc but if the phone (repeatedly) fails to load web pages it is of no use to me.

Regarding build quality, the second and third phone are of infinitely better quality than the first although they all show that too much pressure is being applied to the LCD under the gorilla glass and all have the issue of the earpiece coming unstuck, although the third phone has only just developed this problem after 2 months gentle use while the others had it more or less from new.

EDIT: If there was an alternative to the Streak from HTC then I would probably consider getting that instead at this point. Not because I don't like the Dell.. I do, but as much as I like it, it's no good having a phone if I can't use it.

I am running a o2 2.1 here in the US. If I return my streak to dell for replacement, will dell give me any trouble for modifying the OS? What is the safest method on exchanging the streak? Any modifications I can make so they won't find out that I flashed the rom, etc etc.? I am not too happy with 2.1, so I want to start fresh.

I went through 3. First one was bricked after I did a factory wipe. Second one the gorilla glass was unevenly placed so it would scratch my face. The replacement process was pretty smooth through dell. Overnighted both times. Hopefully I don't have to do it a 4th time but the top of the housing near the power popped open a little bit as I was installing an invisible skin. Phone works great but theres a creaking noise if I squeeze too hard. Is the creaking normal or am I the only one?

One....but the gorilla glass is broken. I dropped it about 2 1/2 feet onto the sidewalk. It landed on the corner and broke the glass. I'm still using it, but I'd sure like to find a replacement screen / glass!!! Anybody know where I can get one? (Dell seems to be no help here...I tried that route already.) Other than that, I love my Streak!!!

I am on my second but not due to a fault as such.......My first one had the periodic soft key flashing after the 2.1 official update, and as I work for o2, I mentioned this to someone I know in the testing dept. and they took mine away to look at and gave me a fresh one which I still have....

ebay has LCD sellers, instructions are here http://rdtk.net/files/Dell%20Streak%20LCD%20Replacement.pdf

fee based service starts over $200 to 260.

Have my first had an unanswered vibrating alarm clock shake mine of the breakfast table and hit the tile floor in lower right corner. That alarm vibrated a non-tacky phone off that table. Had Dell's hard plastic cover around it, without a screen protector applied and had dropped it from similar heights before, only a few were as hard as that tile floor. The Dell cover seems to stick out just enough that the glass never touched the impact zone. I have always been worried the hard case as too smooth and slippery.

I get my LCD replaced this next week the phone will be encases in the spongiest, tacky sleeve I can buy, hopefully with a belt holster assembly.

Any case suggestions?
