Guest shockaholick Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Hey MODACO!! I haven't updated my ROM in quite some time..i'm rocking MODACO's custom rom r21 (FRF91). Does anyone have any recommendations for a new ROM. I hear cynogen makes great roms, just dont know the difference between cynogen and modaco. I'm sure dev's have built some amazing ROMS, I just don't know what's out there. So some recommendations would be great! I love my current build. But like all of us, we get bored after awhile. Also, thanks to all who reply to this post...thank you..

I really like Paul's ROMs for being very close to the stock ROMs (apart from rooting, deodexing, and a couple of other small changes). I can take that as the basis and then customize it the way I want, within the limits of Android and available third party apps, which is fine for me. Other ROMs (such as Enomther's TheOfficial Nexus1) come bundled with more additional apps, a lot of which I don't want. This would leave me with the option of deleting them after the fact or having to look at a number of unused apps all time, and I don't really like either alternative. ROMs such as Cyanogenmod 6, AFAIK, go a lot further in that direction, having their own kernel and a lot of source code level changes from Google's AOSP sources (e.g., the added FLAC support in CM). So for me, the ultimate ROM is as close to stock as possible, with three changes: root (including busybox), deodex, and the framework change for Trackball Alert. MCR prebakes or repacks such as for FRG33 come closest to that. It all depends on how slim or fat you want your ROM. If you want everything but the kitchen sink, MCRs are probably not your best choice (at least not the prebakes, you can always bake your own). HTH, lcg P.S.: Paul, if you happen to read this, any chance for a rooted, deodexed and Trackball Alert-enabled repack of FRG83?
