Guest Stevos Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 (edited) I fear my Pulse has become EX. It has ceased to be. Yesterday whilst I was using it, the screen started flickering, then it shut itself off, and flashed all the lights repeatedly in synch every 2 seconds. Since then it has refused all attempts to start, usually showing the t mobile logo, and occasionally showing the first android logo before either turning off or restarting. I can boot to the recovery menu, and have managed to wipe settings, but whenever I try to flash any ROMs, the device reboots almost straight away. I was on FLB-Mod 2.0alpha3 (nothing to do with the problem I'm sure - it seems like a hardware issue) - so I'll be trying to see if I can flash it using ADB or something to get it back to stock condition for the warranty. Time to start digging through long threads. I guess if it won't flash from the recovery menu (Amon ra), then it won't flash by any other means, but I wonder if I should try to get the recovery partition back to normal so it at least looks like a normal phone... Not sure the best thing to do... Hopefully it's just pining for the fjords. Edited September 29, 2010 by Stevos
Guest ogiogi Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Try with one of the official UPDATA.APP updates
Guest whackster Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Huh  Could it be the first dead Pulse? Try charging your battery before flashing, just leave it for at least half an hour, I've had similar symptoms before too. It can't be dead, simply it can't B)
Guest Stevos Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Yeah I want to try to flash it back to the official 2.1. Oh dear, it looks like the recovery menu reboots when trying to copy files onto the SD. I'll have to try to find a working card reader... This is looking very dead... Is there a way of reverting to the standard recovery menu / removing amon-ra (to make it look kosher) without flashing a new ROM?

I feel so sorry for you. my touch screen replacement took me NT$1250 which is bout £25 I can't help but ask: does that have anything to do with overclocking? would using incorrect drivers damage the components of the device itself? ----------------------------------- could you boot into bootloader? I haven't overclocked the device, but I imagine that overclocking could potentially cause similar symptoms (if done improperly or if unlucky). I wouldn't imagine that different drivers would cause the problem.
Guest Stevos Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 AHA! - It just booted when hooked up to the mains power. The charge indicator is reporting that the battery is at 4% - evidently it was refusing to power or charge from USB (which I've been using a lot recently) The odd thing is that there was plenty of battery power left at the time it died.
Guest TaiwanCHT8k Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010  looks like your EX just decided to stay with you you'd better check that battery I recall that li-ion's should not be over/under-charged
Guest Stevos Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Yes, it seems like maybe the battery is faulty.
Guest Fusion0306 Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Yes, it seems like maybe the battery is faulty. Pulse - 1, Grim reaper - 0 I'm happy for you
Guest Stevos Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Thus proving that the Pulse is indestructible. B) Bit embarrassed that it seems to have been something so basic, but I've never seen a battery go from 85% to 0 in a second (Without catching fire  ) It seems that with no battery, the device won't power from a USB connection alone, also leaving it to charge from the USB for an hour had no effect. It appears to be charging now from mains, but I'll look out for a replacement battery in case it's going to be a regular feature...
Guest Stevos Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 I just confirmed that the phone will not charge at all from USB, even when mostly charged, in fact it seems to actively drain the battery by about 4% in a minute (though the charging icon is displayed) Maybe this is a warranty issue after all.

Looks for me like you have a short-circuit somewhere =/ The battery mustn't drain that fast if the phone is working as it should. It could also be that your battery is dead, and its not your Pulse's fault  You only have 6 months warranty on a battery anyway. Also, the Pulse should boot up if its connected to the charger alone, as long as you pull out the battery. It won't boot if the battery is totally dead and you connect your charger. This happened to me, and I solved it through booting the Pulse without the battery, and insert it once the phone is fully booted up. Best regards, BB

Are you able to boot the phone without the battery using the USB cable as power, or only when it's connected to the mains? I can boot from mains only, but from USB power it doesn't get to the boot logo and reboots every few seconds. I think it used to work from USB power alone. thanks

Also if you are on a desktop try plugging the usb on the back motherboard connections.
