Guest orangephone Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 I am currently on Orange pay monthly but the cap on internet usage is not good for me. I am considering getting a gifgaff sim to use internet, but has anyone tried placing the sim and calling/texting/browsing the internet?
Guest Matt Thompson Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 GiffGaff are basically just O2 and if unlocked the O2 network is nicely supported. You'll need the APN details but there's no reason why any of it shouldn't work.

I am considering getting a gifgaff sim to use internet, but has anyone tried placing the sim and calling/texting/browsing the internet? I'm using GiffGaff with my San Fran. I've placecd a call, browsed the internet and used Navigation, My Tracks and Maps applications all hauling down data. You need to set up the APN details for data access, but those can be found on the GiffGaff website with a quick Google. So far I'm really loving the phone, and for the price it is superb. GiffGaff also means no fear of nasty data surprises. It's a win all round. BTW, this is my first experience of Android, so I'm still finding my way around. I'm sure once I'm fully clued up the experience will be even better.
Guest orangephone Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Thank you. My phoneis nearly here so I'm just waiting for that. I'll get a gifgaff sim for internet too. Too bad I'm on contract till a few months next year.

Guest Nik Louch Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 I'm intrigued by the GiffGaff service. I've been with O2 for years now, and have a good tariff, but their bastardisation of data plans annoys the hell outta me.
Guest orangephone Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 If you want a SIM with £5 extra credit just let me know. I saw that in someone's signature on there and ordered one. Didn't see this.
Guest jonathonf Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 I saw that in someone's signatureNow that's a good idea.

Guest tonyamh Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 i'm with giffgaff the only problem i had was that there was a data lock on my sim but all i had to do was ask on there support forum and it was quickly sorted iv also noticed that the signal is a little less than o2 but that was the same when i was with tescos mobile as well
Guest The Jason8r Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I looked on the giffgaff website and was tempted, but isn't the giffgaff free data offer due to expire at the end of October?
Guest Eclogue Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 My understanding is that after that, if you buy a goodybag (min cost £10), you'll get unlimited data included for the month too. I've also read that you can stack 2 goodybags (i.e. have one ready to go when the previous one finishes), to make sure you don't have a gap.
Guest dadashi Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 what else is in the goodie bag...?
Guest SanFran2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 what else is in the goodie bag...? giffgaff
Guest seekr Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 I've been using giffgaff on my unlocked SanFran since day 1 with no problem. Got a £10 goodie bag with unlimited web.
Guest mike557 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 I looked on the giffgaff website and was tempted, but isn't the giffgaff free data offer due to expire at the end of October? No - the free data expires on the 1st of December. Free data is up to 100MB per day which is VERY reasonable. After 1st of December Giffgaff may charge or do a special deal/goody bag. Been with GG since December 09 and have not paid anything for data. They also have a payback system which pays you for providing support which so far has paid me over £90 and still incrementing. If anyone else wants a sim with £5 credit (when you top up), drop me a PM with name and address, and I will get one sent to you, They also pay for sending out the sims so happy to help :)
Guest shawn0 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 I'm on giffgaff and right now its brilliant but if the free internet ends then I will have to go to 3 or t-mobile for a £5 a month tarrif. You wouldn't want to pay for O2 internet its too slow and mostly GPRS where I am. I only use the internet on my phone Im an old git who in the past has only put £10 a year on a phone sometimes :-)
Guest muzzard Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 I'm on giffgaff too, they've got awesome deals for high data users. the unlimited everything for £30 is a sweet price too
Guest sedj Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 The internet will always be free if you have a goody bag costing £10 or more and is unlimited internet, the free internet which ends on the 1st of December is what you get now if you dont have a goody bag ie a tenner in credit to use as you please. Meaning say you signed up 3 month ago and stuck a tenner on the phone which is the minimum top up then you could have used it online everyday without needing to top up again unless your credit run out :) As mentioned this method is limited to 100mb a day unlike the goody bags which are unlimited.
Guest shawn0 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Dont know about that 100mb limit! I dont have a goodybag and get the Free internet and I was sat outside a supermarket last week and downloaded a full episode of "Ideal" from iplayer via myplayer and that was 125mb.
Guest sensory Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Looking forward to using my GiffGaff sim. It's been sat in a drawer for a week until I had the £10 spare to top-up and use it. Their options and data plans looks excellent!
Guest sikhcentral Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 I have ordered a SF should receive it tomorrow and was looking for a payg data plan on o2 and was not very happy with their deals. I searched on google and giff gaff came up and seemed too good to be true. No one does unlimited data and you normally have to pay at least £15 to get above 1GB per month. This should be perfect with my SF.... will get unlimited texts and 150 minutes if I top up £10 a month. And free same network calls.....

Guest crumplycord Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 got my giffgaff sim sat on my side unit for the last month waiting for my vodafone contract to expire next month. Started gettting the text messages from vodafone about exceeding download limit of 500mb dispite it being "unlimited when I signed up last year" oh well
