androot and Superboot boot image

i have used the androot 1.62 to root my san francisco had no luck with the MCRi method.

my question can i install a custom rom just just using androot im unsure how to install the superboot image before flashing the custom rom.

did a hero using the gold card method still got the goldcard but this method for the san francisco has me stumped pauls walkthrough seems to be for the MCRI method
