Guest orangephone Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 (edited) I am going to try sticking to this thread for all of my questions because I have always used a normal phone for calling and texting. Now it feels like I have a computer as a phone. I really like it, but unfortunately it misses some of the important things I had on a normal phone. There is probably a way to change that, so I would like to ask here, as well as other questions. I will keep updating my first post and mark it as answered if I have the solution. Please be patient because I am new to this. 1) My old phones would display each message separately. The san Francisco uses "threads". How can I set my inbox so that the messages are separate and not all in one? This is inconvenient for me, as well as the fact that the past messages show above when replying, which I don't like. 2) I can't seem to download apps. Internet works fine for me, but it only says started downloading but nothing really downloads. 3) Vibration when text messages arrive. Basically it seems a little complicated. When someone rings me, I want the phone to vibrate, with no sound. When I receive a text message, I want the phone to vibrate and no alert sound either. I can't seem to figure out how to do this. If I turn off sound, I don't get the vibrate. I would also like it to say how many messages I have received on the home page possibly, or at least show that I have a new message (so far I can only see the word message). I turned off notifications because I don't like how it shows in the status bar with a preview of the message. I don't mind it saying who from, but the rest is not my type of thing. 4) On this phone you can lock certain messages? Perhaps from certain contacts or whatever. How can I do this? That's all for now, I will be back to update with more questions possibly as I work my way through. Edited September 30, 2010 by orangephone
Guest mario999 Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Another question added. As most of your post refers to messaging, when you get access to the market try an app such as 'Handcent' which is very customisable SMS manager. You can change its appearance, notifications and various other things in relation to SMS.

Guest Azurren Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 For your messaging woes there may-be an option in the messaging settings for this (It's different on different android devices, some have things some don't) but their should be a "Vibrate" setting in there  If not then try downloading a different messaging app such as Handcent, I am almost certain that one of those has an option to disable threading. As for apps not downloading.. It maybe a google account problem (Although that usually only happens after owning your android phone for some time) The fix was to change your account from @googlemail to @gmail (Google website on your computer, under mail settings) then wiping your phone and inputting the new account settings The above fixed worked for me, members of the pulse forum and alot of other android users @google support.. But it require that you "Wipe" your phone (Factory restore / reset) So bye bye data. You could always wait and see if it resolves itself.. It's up to you Hope this helps

I don't like this as I dislike people peering over my messages. Is there a way to logout of the email and then login again without resetting everything?

Perhaps you should develop a nasty elbow twitch that seems to be triggered whenever someone peers over your shoulder  I don't have a Blade but on the Pulse.. No.. You have to start all over B)

I run a sort-of councelling service and I am required to use a phone for people who texts and to respect their privacy I don't allow previews of messages even on normal phones. With my own personal messages some matter some don't. But all in all it's not something I like.
Guest orangephone Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 If I restore to factory settings will I have to get an unlock code for my phone again?
Guest Azurren Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 If I restore to factory settings will I have to get an unlock code for my phone again? You shouldn't need to  Actually i really should have checked before saying the above but.. Well, my markets not working either, same with my spicas B) Time to play the waiting game
Guest ancientyne Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 put yourself on WIFI and make sure your using the android marketplace and not the orange marketplace as that does all its talking over 3g, if you havent got wifi to hook up to, then 3g it, which means makeing sure your sim is active whether it be orange or an old unlocked one.

Well, my markets not working either, same with my spicas B) Time to play the waiting game I'm going to try putting another sim in. I did reset it and gmail.com works. put yourself on WIFI and make sure your using the android marketplace and not the orange marketplace as that does all its talking over 3g, if you havent got wifi to hook up to, then 3g it, which means makeing sure your sim is active whether it be orange or an old unlocked one. Wifi was connected. The issue was the email address I think so market now works. Still trying to figure how I can make texts show as individual texts rather than threads.
Guest malooga Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 I can't believe you want to get rid of threaded messaging! It comes in soooooo handy reminding you what you said to ya bird, saved me from loads of "SEE YOU DON'T EVEN READ TEXTS!!!!!!" and other stuff like that
Guest orangephone Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 I remember quite well so it isn't necessary for me. For example om Sony Ericsson Elm it has both options of threaded and individual, I need individual on this phone.
