Signal bars and Data Connection.

Has anyone noticed that the phone seems to reguarly switch the data connection type i.e. for me it switches from E>3G>3G+>E>no connection etc when in same spot with signal strength bars constantly changing. I work in birmingham city centre and even here it seems to be constantly switching. At home I am usually have a stable 3G+ connection but again it seems to flutter around.

Certainly on the pulse when I was stationary it seemed to lock onto 3G and stop on it.

I generally dont take a lot of notice of the signal indicators - there not always that accurate - certainly for me at least its not on the San Fran - often it has no bars but is loading web pages very fast!

Interested if some of you guys could keep an eye on yours and see if you notice the same. Wonder if this is a software issue - some clever soul on here might know.

I was considering posting something similar to this, but my findings are that, when on 2g the signal meter reads quite normally, but when on 3g/3.5g, it always seems to read the signal quite low, but functions ok, probably just a calibration issue with the meter. I have also noticed that when connected to WiFi, after a period of time, the WiFi strength indicater will constantly read zero bars, yet the connection is still solid, even if held close to the router it still reads zero. A reboot usually fixes it.

I agree that the 3G signal meter seems to read 'low'. This is on my unlocked SF on Vodafone

Wifi is awful,keeps dropping out - Pulse is showing 80% but san fran is not seeing wifi and 3G is next to noting, when I know its 3 bars on all other phones as transmitter is less than 200M away!!!!!

Is it the rom or is it the phone, if its the latter, anyone wanna buy a phone????

yeah, i was surprised to not be getting a full signal on orange, literally i live across the road from an orange mast, i could literally throw the phone and be able to hit it yet i get 3 out of 4 bars sometimes

it seems to fluctuate wildly, between 2 bars and 4. i hope this is a power saving technique because im so near a mast otherwise it will no doubt be a major problem

I wouldn't stress about the 3g signal level too much as it seems to work ok, I think its just a level meter calibration issue
