Display Shimmering + artefacts on some white buttons

Does anybody get a kind of shimmering in the image when the brightness is raised on some of the default wallpapers?

Thanks

EDIT

IS anybody else getting similar problems or is my device faulty? Many white bevelled bits also have artifacts on them, for example the bit ont he bottom of the notifications whne you pull it down has some blue artefact in the middle?

Uhh oh, really nice phone other than this. It seems to be blues that trigger it the most. I have unlocked the thing, do you think I can still take it to an orange store and get a replacement?

Yeah you have 14 days to get it replaced and unlocking doesn't cause any problems. Just put the original orange sim back in.. they wont be able to tell anyway.

It kind of shimmers as the brightness adjusts on auto. AS you mentioned, the change seems to move from the centre outwards (crawling effect).

You can also see dots in a regular grid pattern for the touchscreen (most notable when screen is off).

All normal I would say.

I have had the same problem which has only started today during on my short train journey to work - horizontal shimmering lines which appear on white backgrounds (like a sort of interference) - the google search page. I tried to find a another application with white background and selected Lattitude and these became much more prenounced for a short while. I dont have auto-brightness enabled so its not that and Im on Stock Orange ROM (not that this would make any difference).

I am at work now and dont have time to mess with it.

Were you near other people with phones when this happened ? Im wondering whether this is interference or simply a screen fault. Regardless I almost certainly be returning it as it not right - gutted.

I am getting a similar effect too, not sure if it was present on the orange default as on r2 now. It sort of looks like the same as when you have a low res set on a pc like the image does not match the screen etc. I also see it on the power control widget, its not sold colour etc.

Alternatively you can get a refund/repurchase.

Anyone know if purchased from orange internet if you can return or exchange at a store ?

The thought of dealing with orange customer service is not a good one.

Just out of interest my wife has now which I just picked up and its not been rooted or anything and the screen is perfect, none of the strangeness mine has. Is there a chance the custom rom has made changes at all?

Mine has the custom rom on and I can't see any shimmering, can someone do a video to show it?

I dont have the custom rom - it is intermittent- i was wondering if it was interfernce from other mobile signals/electrical equipment - I am having it replaced tomorrow.

I have no video handy. But it is less with a black background. I can still see a blue tinge line on my power widget when I touch the screen which goes away once I take my finger off, very strange.

EDIt* Just rooted and installed the custom rom on the new one and its perfect so maybe its an issue with quality on some screens since they are made to a price. Not sure I can be bothered to return it yet though so will wait and see.

I have attached at image that I get it on if people want to check. If you open this image in gallery, zoom in the the sky and pan around it bit. On mine you get an odd movement effect in some areas, the colour is not solid but has odd interference in its colour.

I think I am going to take my phone to the orange store tomorrow and ask if there is a display model to compare with, if it is normal then I can live with it as the rest of the phone is so awesome for £99, however if mine is dodgy I hope to get a replacement.

Now this is strange, my wifes phone shows the power control widget smaller than mine does, mine is taller as if the resolution on the screen is not set right. What you think could have casued that? Or is it faulty.

You running different launchers? That would be the explanation.

Try rebooting both devices, in case its a glitch.

For example, for me using launcherpro I have 5 rows on each homescreen and everything is scaled accordingly without distorting widgets/icons.

Both using launcher pro with same settings

Edit, no your right, I had auto fit icons she did not lol. Still got a blue arc tinge on it though so looks faulty. Its bloody unlocked too so would have to pay again, doh.

Same on photos too in gallery, the main gallery screen where its blurry has blue tinges swirled on it and photos have funny blue marks on em too. I wonder if a factory restore, but orange stuff back on then re do to see if its sorted after that?

I don't think restoring orange will fix, I have it with an unlocked untouched blade.

Nice, I will definitely take it back. Out of interest which bit of the phone did you show him the problem on, ie which part of the OS? I hope to get the same result as you.

I could see it in gallery and on white screens and also a sort of arc on the power control widget. He said he could see it right away even though it was hard to see instore in bright light. I dont think they can refuse however as you could just say its not for you and get a refund anyhow.

Now that it's pretty much confirmed the SF has a PenTile matrix, it's quite easy to explain - the shimmering or artifacts may be visible in some cases of colour transitions on the image displayed, it's just the way PenTile matrix works - so-called colour fringing.

I took it to the shop today and as I purchased it online he said I would have to send it back to them. I really like the phone and other than this my phone is perfect, not really sure whether to send it back or put up with it.
