For those looking for SatNav on the SF, without using any data like with Google Maps, so far I've found CoPilot Live8 ( http://www.alk.eu.com/copilot/android/ ) and MotoNav. CoPilot was hihglighted by Paul in another android forum (I think he had some free copies, which are all gong now) and priced very competitively, around 27-28 pounds, for the UK version and a 400MB download.

MotoNav is also another compatible one (for the 480x800 screens) but after having tried a trial I don't think is as polished as the above, also I couldn't find any Post Code searches on MotoNav.

If anyone has managed to get anything else working on their SF please report here.

Only criteria is that is must NOT use any data for navigation (unless ofcourse you enable things like Traffic updates).

Motonav does have postcode search - I think you need to enter it in either the suburb of street field. I believe motonav has maps for all of europe, north america, south/central america, asia, australia, NZ

CoPilot 8 doesnt have as many maps as Motonav - it only has 3 I think!

There is a article in the register about this that was good but conclusion was copilot was best anyway.

I use sygic and it works really well! Really fast lock on to location and the maps seem very up to date so far

thanks guys, all interesting info. I will try some of the others mentioned here until finally settling on a preferred one. On my WinMo I got used to TT but from what I read there is no TT version working on android yet, correct me if I'm wrong !

Another vote for CoPilot.

Can get UK& Ireland map, then add extra's such as Europe, North America, Australasia, South Africa ALk Maps, can also have live traffic updates, etc

Tried copilot and Motonav, copilot is better but keeps on resetting its settings at startup which is a real pain in the rear!

I am aware you can just get the UK/ Ireland edition, but if I pay the extra and get the European one, does that include the UK?

Daft question I know, but I want to make sure, I never trust companies not to try pulling a fast one in the name of profit. :)

hi,

yes it does include the u.k and ireland.

i've tried copilot, sygic, navigon and ndrive on android and imo, copilot is the best.

Thanks for the info, seems better value for money to go for the Euro deal in that case, if I venture over the channel next Summer!

Can you download the Google Maps for the UK and put them offline on to the SD card? Seem to remember you could do this once upon a time for iPhone, not sure if it would work for nav though?

I cannot comment on Android yet, but I tested all the major players on an iPhone, and got on best with co-pilot.

Unfortunately that still remains the case and is likely to be so for some time yet...TT were reluctant to offer updates to the Navigator 7 that your winmo uses as it was so easy for people to obtain the software without paying them any $$$ for it and they've seen exactly the same thing happen since releasing their i-phone version. Until they feel confident that the market for an Android version is large enough ,and, more importantly, that they'll reap substantial sales which won't be dented by the actions of the dudes who like to ,ahem , share the software,I doubt we'll be seeing it anytime soon ;) (of course, that doesn't mean I'm still keeping my fingers crossed as their interface rocks and kicks 4ss compared to ALL the other platforms I've tried)

I bought Copilot 8 a couple of days back (yes, I did say bought!) and it works all fine and dandy.... but....

The speed cam alerts have a mind of their own!

Sometimes there is no alert, sometimes a verbal one, other times just a quite little "ping" from the phones speaker?

Very unimpressed with this aspect of the software to be honest. Anyone else found this to be happening?

I am using PocketGPS's database, so that might be an issue I suppose??

On a side note, it seems Android/ this phone will NOT let you put guidance instructions through a headset or BT device. Another annoying isse. I think its Android/ SF related as Navigon wouldn't route the sound through anything else other than the phones speaker. Ive tried apps to force the sound to route the way i want it but the SF refuses to play ball.

does google satnav with voice commands without data connection work in mainland Europe? If not, is copilot a good alternative to buying a proper garmin or tomtom satnav?

The lack of data will / can cause problems... so IMHO .. yes

Sure a dedicated sat nav device will have a few more more bells and whistles, but copilot has everything you need (and more..lol)
