Strange behaviour: mobile 3G/GSM

Hi,

I am on r9 after a full wipe.

I always used "Quick Settings".... now, when I select to use mobile network (switch on)...nothing happens.

I found out that I have to switch modes before I get a connect....this is pretty annoying if you imagine the following:

-Mode is set to "GSM/WCDMA auto"

-I switch mobile data ON, nothing happens

-I switch modes (going down to GSM) and I get connected..

-I want full speed, so I switch again to GSM/WCDMA and get connected....FINALLY

Anyone else with that strange behaviour? Could it be that GOVERNOR is somehow causing this mess?

Any hints are appreciated! :-)

No one? Seriously?

I get a similar but not identical problem where my connection seems to die, stopping data and sms from working correctly. To resolve I have to disconnect and reconnect to the ntework. Very frustrating

It is... !

Any clue where this might come from?

I was searching this forum for a related problem and came across this thread.

I have an Orange San Francisco and while trying battery saving strategies, I turned off data connection and switched to 2G at night. In morning I couldn't manage to get data connection to reconnect even after switching between 2G and 3G. Only a device reboot got it working. I have replicated this issue multiple times now. I am on T-mobile network.

I have read about a similar issue with T-mobile Pulse 2.1 ROM where if mobile data network once disconnected, could only reconnect after a reboot.

Any ideas???

Have the same issue. It is not related to to governors but its supposed to be cased by RIL. In fact it is not caused by Quick Settings (or any other widget renaming APN) but by simply the ACTION of renaming APN. You can rename APN manualy and it will also happen.

Bottom line, IMO caused by RIL and will have to live with it. Am using Extended Controls which provides 2 possibilities how to disable / enable mobile data. Renaming APN also doesnt work but the second way is ok.

First post here... hello!!

I have an HTC Desire (simfree, froyo, unrooted, basband 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2) and have had all of the same data problems listed above in this post and more.

I came across this fix. It's a hidden menu in which you can specify your network type.

Remember, unless it's a network provided handset, if you factory reset your handset or flash it with a new ROM you will have to perform this fix each time.

Firstly ensure that "Settings>Wireless&Networks>Mobile Networks>Network Mode" is set to "GSM/WCDMA Auto"

Dial *#*#4636#*#* to access the hidden menu

Select "Phone Information" and scroll down to the bottom

In "Set Preferred Network Type" select "GSM Auto (prl)"

This has totally cured my data connection issues. Happy days :P
