Guest fremar Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 Think that the touchscreen is broken or something on my San Francisco. It behaves really strange and works for a while and then it starts to register touches all over the screen. Tried app, touch test and if I touch the screen and hold the finger there it suddenly pops up to spots that jumps around on the screen irraticly. When I lift my finger away from the screen the dots are still on the screen and wont go away before I shut the screen off and the on again. Dont now what to do now really  Have tried to do a reset of userdata and cache but no change.

Guest Rem1x Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 I've had that one or twice while playing PacMan Championship Edition. It's rather weird.
Guest Simon O Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 Does sound like you have a bad digitizer. Replace the phone.
Guest fremar Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 Yes going to send it back to uk to get it replaced
Guest David Horvath Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 I have the same "problem", i still have the screen protector, will remove that and test it. It would be really hard to replace it from Hungary :/ Hope it will be fine.

I've found that removing the back of the case solves it everytime.

Guest oker Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Yeah I get the same, goes completely unusable and I have to reset it by removing the battery the weird thing is that i don't have to reset, when the back is removed the touchscreen starts working again.
Guest R_A_V Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) My San Francisco acts like this too. Don't know what to do. I've tried modaco r4 rom, froyo alfa rom, original one. Issue remains. Could anybody help me and answer: 1. Is it possible to exchange SF if I havn't really bought it in Orange? I've bought it on eBay. Any warranty possible for me? 2. Does Orange admit international shipping? If I return a phone to them directly could they send an exchanged one back? 3. Maybe someone in UK could help me to exchange it? Thanks in advance. Guest fremar Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Looks like the same problem that my first SF had. Try to install "Multitouch Vis Test" then you can see whats going on, mine worked as it should if I just barely touched the screen. But if I pressed just a little bit harder it went crazy, turning the screen off and then on again made it work again until it was pressed to hard again. Sent it back to UK and the seller replaced it for me and then tested the new phone so all was good with it.
Guest qylin Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Sorry to hear that, mine is on shipping, hope it doesn't have such issue, as it's pretty hard to exchange it in China. It seems touch screen is the most vulernable device, my iTouch was repaired for the same reason - touch screen failure, that no matter how you try to register a touch, it doesn't. Installed "Multitouch Visual Test" and found that where is a "bad" area on the touch screen (about 1/5 of screen). If I press a bit harder in this area touch screen goes crazy. Now I know exactly that it's a hardware issue. I'm not sure when it started acting like this. I mean I don't know if it came to me faulty or it's my fault (maybe I pressed it too hard and broke it).
Guest onlinejobwork Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Does sound like you have a bad digitizer. Replace the phone. You are right and Its true No wonder from Chinese Design and manufactorer plus cheapest price ever, what we can expect? look like they spend least time on Product Testing, more than 65% of user facing some kind of major hardware or performace related issue, look like Paul's review? and hotukdeals.com post help boost the SF sell otherwise no one even try to know even look. the great Indian said 'The person who buy cheap things cry everyday but quality buyer cry only once (at the time of paid money)' its really true in the case of SF but before we go to buy for cheaper things 1st things not to expect great expectation of the things or device how is your personal experience with the SF? is your main device? my one main device is Iphone 3gs since last December and since than I used/buy Samsung omnia (sold), Nokia 5800(sold), LG Gt540 very impressive, not high resolutiuon as SF wuth no sensor but Decent Camera, Extremly fast graphics performance very stable unlike SF, I impress review by Paud and sell it and buy SF but I must say the graphics and overall speed and bettery life and build quality is outstanding on LG gt540 get it touch with u Urvish
Guest qylin Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) No one had a gun at you to force you to buy a CHEAP device manufactured by Chinese, and the Chinese manufacture has been nortorious for its cheap price and low quality for a long time. You've made your own decision-to buy SF- you should have response for your own decision. Maybe you won't buy Chineses product, that's ok, but somebody out there might, because they are cheap enough. So if you just wanna to "Cry only for once" go and get a Jab brand. Besides, I'm quite curious on where have you gotten the statistic 65%? By the way, my apple gadget, iTouch, from Apple, well known for its solid quality, has failed just because the same reason-touch screen. And due to my occupation, I happen to experience some kinds of smart phones, they are not impeachable as well: iPhone 4: signal loss when gripped a certain way Motorola Milestone: main board failure, the usb connector had some issues X10: with rom 1.6, poorly support opengl, all the graphics are jams Nexus One: screen fatigue - some points of the display is color matched You are right and Its true No wonder from Chinese Design and manufactorer plus cheapest price ever, what we can expect? look like they spend least time on Product Testing, more than 65% of user facing some kind of major hardware or performace related issue, look like Paul's review? and hotukdeals.com post help boost the SF sell otherwise no one even try to know even look. the great Indian said 'The person who buy cheap things cry everyday but quality buyer cry only once (at the time of paid money)' its really true in the case of SF but before we go to buy for cheaper things 1st things not to expect great expectation of the things or device how is your personal experience with the SF? is your main device? my one main device is Iphone 3gs since last December and since than I used/buy Samsung omnia (sold), Nokia 5800(sold), LG Gt540 very impressive, not high resolutiuon as SF wuth no sensor but Decent Camera, Extremly fast graphics performance very stable unlike SF, I impress review by Paud and sell it and buy SF but I must say the graphics and overall speed and bettery life and build quality is outstanding on LG gt540 get it touch with u Urvish Edited October 29, 2010 by qylin

If I press a bit harder in this area touch screen goes crazy. I've got the same problem if I pressed too hard in the area of the screen to the left of the volume buttons the screen goes crazy. If I press the power button twice (so the screen locks and comes back) the touchscreen works a little bit better - but multitouch visible test shows up some tracking issues. If I reboot the phone it all works fine again. Edited November 1, 2010 by Ash_P

Also I didn't see anyone blaming China or Chinese for the faulty digitiser so why don't you relax?
Guest d4m4n Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Looks like my Blade is FOA (Faulty On Arrival). The touchscreen goes crazy after few minutes of use. Sliding a picture or map makes it zoom in or out. While typing letters I get extra letter from the opposite side of the keyboard. This effect is clearly visible with swype. I can see blue swipe lines even if I'm not touching the screen. Icons and images may vibrate on the screen after I move them. Looks like the same problem as others on this thread. This phone is quite useless so I'll return it for repair/replacement tomorrow. The model is Saunalahti TFT.
Guest Oyorf Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) I have sometimes same problem. Sometimes display goes just crazy and it's like there is touches everywhere. And sometimes when I try to use google map and move on the map with one finger, phone thinks i'm zooming and so on. This does not happen very often and it goes away if i "twist" the phone little bit. Guest nizametdinov Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) My digitizer dead too ;). Any ideas where i can bay digitizer? Can't find it on ebay. Edited January 15, 2011 by nizametdinov

And sometimes when I try to use google map and move on the map with one finger, phone thinks i'm zooming and so on. This does not happen very often and it goes away if i "twist" the phone little bit. That's what I'm seeing. Interesting thread. Squeezing the top right seems to cure it for me, and squeezing the top left sometimes breaks it again. Twisting the phone has a similar effect. There seem to be a few modes depending on where it is twisted: - not responding to any touch - taking single touches as a multitouch with an invisible finger mirrored down the vertical axis - jumping single touch around a bit - working fine Given this looks like a problem with a physical connection breaking continuity, it's very tempting to take it apart for a look. It's a shame one of the screws has tamper detection. Curiously, I read a thread where a chap took his apart to repaint the case and claims he did this very carefully without damaging any connectors - but on reassembly the touchscreen didn't work. It would appear there is something particularly sensitive about a connector somewhere. This problem only started manifesting on my phone yesterday after about a month of careful ownership. The wife's San Fran (which she's had longer) is fine, however. Edited February 4, 2011 by tttonyyy
Guest tttonyyy Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Can anyone see from this teardown/rebuild video of the ZTE Blade where the touchscreen connector is?
Guest scoobydoo99 Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Can anyone see from this teardown/rebuild video of the ZTE Blade where the touchscreen connector is? I'd guess it the one at the top left, if you watch the video, at about 4 min 40 secs, when he's reassembling, he seems to have a problem getting it to fire up. He checks the battery connections a couple of times, that doesn't seem to work so he then fiddles with ribbon connector on the top left. I'm guessing the phone was starting when he was trying it, but the screen connector wasn't quite fully home?
Guest tttonyyy Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Could be. Fixing the touchscreen issues might just be a case of wiggling or disconnecting and reconnecting that ribbon connector.
