Guest Matchstick Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 Has anyone else tried the Google Listen podcast app on the Blade/San Francisco yet as I seem to be having problems getting it to actually download and play the podcasts. The subscriptions import from Google Reader and refresh successfully but once I actually try to download the New Items the resulting files appear in the download directory but Listen won't play them and seems convinced they haven't actually been downloaded. Other podcast apps like BeyondPod seem to be working properly but I like the simplicity of Listen and it's integration with Google Reader so if anyone has a suggestion how I can get it working that would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Hello, Have the problem and been looking for a solution as well but without success, hard to beat Google Listen. Found any clues/anything yet? Take care
Guest Simon O Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Since other podcast apps work fine then the problem is with Google Listen. Try making a bug report on the android market.
Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Nothing plays for me either.
Guest mintfresh Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 Im having the same problem, did anyone manage to fix?
Guest shortcolin Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) Hi, I'm having this problem too with the San Francisco. I suspect it's something to do with the software build on the phone, as exactly the same listen apk file works on my HTC Hero. I looked at the log file, and get this error when clicking on a 'Listen now' link on a podcast: D/Listen ( 3475): onClick id=2131492890 E/Parcel ( 3490): Class not found when unmarshalling: com.google.android.apps.listen.Episode, e: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.google.android.apps.listen.Episode listen.Episode class inherits from 'java.lang.Object' - so I don't think it's a missing superclass problem. Something makes me wonder if the Parcelable stuff is "funny" on this build of the phone - but I can't really think what. The class exists within the .apk file - it's that the Parcel stuff somehow isn't seeing it. I copied over the GoogleXXX.apk files (e.g. GoogleApps.apk and email.apk) from the modaco rom (Thinking that perhaps Orange had removed some extra google stuff that the app relied on) but no luck. I posted this problem to http://groups.google.com/group/listen-disc...c75c2d654e1e79# where it might get better exposure. Colin Edited October 19, 2010 by shortcolin
Guest JokerNJ Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 I had similar problems, never got it to download anything. MyPod is great though, gets everything every time.

I checked the log and it's the same exception. This is really annoying because Google Listen was my favourite app :P I tried the MyPod client but it's a pretty cluttered and over-complicated interface - Listen was perfect when it worked.
Guest shortcolin Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Hi, Listen now works for me using the "Japanese Jellyfish" ROM - I suspect the Google code has been updated/fixed in this rom. Hope this helps, Colin
Guest saturnreturn Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Hi, Listen now works for me using the "Japanese Jellyfish" ROM - I suspect the Google code has been updated/fixed in this rom. Hope this helps, Colin Really? There's been no update to Listen in the market, so not sure what could have changed! Wonder if extracting the apk from JJ and installing on FLB ROM will make it work there too?
Guest Simon O Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 If it works on JJ then I'm surprised and wouldn't mind knowing what was fixed. Most of the system in FLB is from the latest version of Froyo so I can't see the bug being caused by any of these files.
Guest MrMcIntosh77 Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) I can confirm that Google Listen works flawlessly on Japanese Jellyfish 7 ( which is the last version I used) but not on FLB. This is a puzzling problem. I recorded logcat then started Google Listen. First Listen downloads one podcast (ww0196.mp3) and when download is finished it spits out error: Class not found when unmarshalling: com.google.android.apps.listen.CacheRecord, e: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException This error seems to prevent next podcasts from downloading, since Listen thinks there is still a download going on: startNextDownload active download, ignoring. When the first podcast had downloaded, I tried to play it. This generated error: Class not found when unmarshalling: com.google.android.apps.listen.Episode, e: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException Here is the interesting parts of the log: D/Listen ( 1555): startDownload 94d4e9cfa816429c74b36d64cbc5f7587996b1d http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/tw....net/ww0196.mp3 D/Listen ( 1555): no cache record for:94d4e9cfa816429c74b36d64cbc5f7587996b1d D/Listen ( 1555): startDownloadJob statusCode:2 I/ActivityThread( 1555): finish dispatching broadcast to com.google.android.apps.listen.CacheDownloadService$DownloadServiceReceiver@30f3ed18 I/ActivityThread( 1555): Dispatching broadcast com.google.android.apps.listen.reader.NOTIFY_REFRESHED seq=-1 to com.google.android.apps.listen.reader.ReaderService$1@30f68c88 D/AlarmManager( 210): +++Alarm set:type=0 com.google.android.apps.listen Trigger after:7199081ms E/Listen ( 1555): scheduleRefreshAlarm in 7199 I/ActivityThread( 1555): finish dispatching broadcast to com.google.android.apps.listen.reader.ReaderService$1@30f68c88 D/Listen ( 1555): DownloadJob 200 http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/tw....net/ww0196.mp3 E/Parcel ( 1548): Class not found when unmarshalling: com.google.android.apps.listen.CacheRecord, e: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.google.android.apps.listen.CacheRecord ---------- CUT ---------- D/Listen ( 1548): onClick id=2131492890 E/Parcel ( 1555): Class not found when unmarshalling: com.google.android.apps.listen.Episode, e: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.google.android.apps.listen.Episode D/Listen ( 1548): NowPlayingView onResume D/Listen ( 1548): NowPlayingView onPause D/Listen ( 1548): onPause ---------- CUT ---------- D/Listen ( 1555): startNextDownload isBlocked:false W/Listen ( 1555): startNextDownload active download, ignoring. ---------- CUT ---------- D/Listen ( 1555): startNextDownload isBlocked:true Edited February 18, 2011 by MrMcIntosh77
