Help with Hotmail & Microsoft Exchange

Completely new to Android & i'm been diving into the deep end since getting my San Francisco on Thursday.

So, i've got some really noob questions.

When i first got my phone it had orange mail which gave me the option to setup Hotmail. But since getting it unlocked & putting my Vodafone sim in i cant use Orange Mail (invalid phone number). So, is there an app for Hotmail so i can view it just like Googlemail or Outlook?

Also, i would like to setup my works email - my friends { edit - Fanbois! } with iPhones have done this - so i can just log in & check for messages. Currently, i'm using Microsoft Exchange on IE8 on my PC.

And one last thing, i've installed 'Super Manager' to get rid of Guitar Hero, WWTBAM, Orange Mail & Orange maps - but i have no idea on how to do this. Could someone point me in the right direction.

Cheers.

I'm having this problem too. I'm totally new to ANdroid but very used to Symbian and MS Exchange works like a charm :)

Please could some gurus in here help us. Paul or someone, where are you?

For Hotmail I downloaded k9 mail app from the market place

Incoming mail server:pop3.live.com

Security Type:SSL(Always)

Port:995

Outgoing server: smtp.live.com

Security Type:TLS(if available)

Port:25

and use your hotmail email/password

Pretty sure it also supports exchange although I haven't used it myself

Had a quick look around, Froyo has good hotmail support once you put in the right settings, 2.1 not so much.

So...Workarounds...

Understand that Android is google and therefore loves all things Googly.

1. Create gmail account

2. Link hotmail to gmail

3. Use gmail from now on

I have used this method and will likely make a full transition soon.

At the moment I am forwarding all my hotmail to gmail (leaving a copy of msg on hotmail)

When i reply to something sent to my hotmail through gmail it makes it look like its sent from hotmail.

I do intend to make the switch completely though.

Particular bonuses here include push mail (instant email rather than regular checks). Also contacts sync to your gmail account. It's just another place to backup all your contacts.

Basically your gmail account is a valuable passport on the android, I use it on a handful of apps (Springpad, maps, mytracks).

PS...I did find this, but I still think you guys should move to the almighty G. Doooo it.

On the Microsoft Exchange query, just go to Email, click Menu and Add Account and then input information in for Exchange Server (as you would on iPhone).

I dont have 'Email'

Only have 'Google Mail' & 'Mail' which is the pre-installed Orange app.

Everytime I open 'Mail' the phone tries to authorise my phone number but can't. (I'm using an Vodafone SIM)

Any ideas on how to solve this?

The error message is:

'Cannot connect to server.

(No valid authentication

mechanism found.)

Any ideas?

It may not work if there are security requirements.

My works Exchange server demands a 5 digit pin and on board encryption. iPhone 3GS or higher supports this, as does Android 2.2 but 2.1 doesn't natively.

There are third party apps to support these requirements but I wont pay extra to read my work email :P
