Guest yanky83 Posted October 2, 2010 Report Posted October 2, 2010 Hi, I have a HTC Desire with the common battery drain issue. Maybe I am blind, but I have been trying to achieve the following: Connect, say every 30 minutes to 3G, check email, and close the 3G conn again. To save battery .... I tried Settings Profiles to open a connection every 30 minutes. This worked so far, But I couldnt get any email app to relyably detect the internet connection and check for new mail. Further the Android auto sync function. is very nice ... but how can I trigger it, when an internet connection becomes available? Any hints on that would be much apreciated. Thanks, Dennis.

Try downloading JuiceDefender from the Market. Leave the settings profiles as they are, and when JuiceDefender turns on the data connection, the Gmail app should automatically sync!

The paid version is very worth it IMHO, for instance: - data can be always off except when running certain apps requiring data (user defined apps). - Wifi auto switch on/off according to your location. The UI is not the most friendly one but you'll get use to it

Is your device rooted? then use SET CPU you still can have data connection opened all the time but saves you battery.
