Guest myfeetsmell Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 (edited) Hi guys Sorry still a bit of a noob in here, but any help would be very much appriciated. I have been looking for a 16 Gb card for the San Fran and wondered if this one would be any good. Micro SD There is also this one available Micro SD 2 Any other good prices around???? Thanks in advance guys Cheers Phil Edited October 3, 2010 by myfeetsmell
Guest cmberry20 Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 Thats the cheapest i've found as well. I would get the Dane-Elec one. I find their memory cards to be really good.
Guest neologan Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 is a class 2 really a good idea? this means it has pretty slow read/writes.
Guest legolamb Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 Same price at Play, reviews suggest it's ok
Guest Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 I got this class 4 one at MyMemory. Use code BACKFORGOOD to get it for £20.80 delivered.
Guest norwici Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 I got this class 4 one at MyMemory. Use code BACKFORGOOD to get it for £20.80 delivered. I have this card and sd card speed test from the market gives 8M write and 10M read with the default 1M buffer. These are the real world results in the SF and I reckon they are pretty decent particularly the relative lack of difference between read and write speeds.
Guest dwl99 Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 If you want to use it for apps2sd you'll need a class 6 at least.
Guest jsplace Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 If you want to use it for apps2sd you'll need a class 6 at least. With all respect thats erm.... rubbish. Class 4 is absolutely fine for A2SD and in almost all cases faster than the NAND in your phone.
Guest Simon O Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 If you want to use it for apps2sd you'll need a class 6 at least. You only need Class 6 if you move dalvik-caches to the phone. With the San Francisco there is no need to do this due to the large amount of space on data. Class 4 is fine for A2SD.
Guest myfeetsmell Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 Thanks for the pointers guys, so basically give these cards a miss and look for a class 4 yeh. Any ponters towards a bargain

Any ponters towards a bargain For 16Gb then I'd get a Kingston as they are the cheapest I've seen online. Personally I'm using an 8Gb Samsung Class 6.

The stock 2GB card on the san fran gave me: 4MB write 12MB read It's a class 2 I think, but acts like a class 4. Edited October 3, 2010 by neologan
Guest myfeetsmell Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 Just been looking around and found a class 4, what do you guys think of this one class 4 micro sd This more like it?

Guest myfeetsmell Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 hi BigTallJon, Thanks for the heads up on the my memory site mate, i have been trying to find where to enter the promo code you mentioned but only box i can find to enter a code is the gift code box and doesnt work when entered there. Any ideas mate

Fair enough - just going by what I found on this site: "This is not recommended if using less than a Class 4 SD card, as it may randomly eject and cause all sorts of issues. A Class 6 card is strongly recommended."

Any ideas mate The "gift code" box is where I entered BACKFORGOOD a few days ago - worked for me - maybe the code has expired. There's 4% cash back via quidco although mine didn't track - probably because I used the code.

System overhead is much less with ext2 and should be quicker.
Guest oh!dougal Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Strangely the Orange manual ("San Francisco") on Page 125 ("Specifications") quotes the "maximum capacity of memory card" as being just 8gb.
Guest randal24 Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 So what happens if you use a class 2 card in one of these devices? Say just for storage of music, pics etc..?
Guest Tidy_Sammy Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 What 'Class' is the 2GB card that comes with the SF? Is there any app I can get to test the speeds of it? I want to upgrade to a 8GB card, going to be using this phone for music too.

I'm just using an older 8gb card thats been round a few phones, N95, N85, Nokia 5800, 5230 .... probably in some of the HTC kit I had a few years back as well ....
