Guest digthemlows Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 So the gorilla glass really does shatter quite easy.........fell from about 3 feet and landed flat on the screen on concrete and shattered pretty good........it still works and so I want to save everything and transfer, including the fact that I'm on 2.1 and everything......What would I do to save not only my apps, but the operating system and settings?? Or do I have to re-flash and go through all the steps on the new phone?
Guest Shauneh Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 See this is weird, I drop mine ALLLLLL the time from 3ft+ and it doesn't smash. given its usually not concrete I'm dropping it onto but yeah :/. If you install the custom recovery called Koush's recovery 2.0.5.1 (from here) Then you can backup most things using the recovery console called nandroid (Koush's recovery is Nandroid for the Streak) After that there are some menu options for backing up everything. Alternatively u can use Titanium Backup but I find that more fiddling and less helpful than nandroid. Thanks, -- Shauneh

Thanks, -- Shauneh I agree with Shauneh, but I have found that the custom recovery sometimes hangs on the 'data' part of the backup and ruining the backup - I too have found Titanium Backup fiddily and had a lot more success with MyBackup which backs up everything you need: Apps, App Data, SMS, MMS, System Settings, Bookmarks and other stuff I cant really remember right now.

I have Titanium Backup and backed up the apps........I was hoping there is some way to basically image my streak so that I apply it to the new one and all setting, layouts, etc. are there........I'll do some research on Nandroid and see if that will work.........
Guest digthemlows Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 for what it's worth I just went ahead and flashed the new phone the same way as the first.......got 2.1 loaded in 15 minutes!! .......... I used Titanium Backup to back up my apps and their settings but it failed........when I tried to put them on the new phone they all loaded and not one of them worked..............I got the "crash error" to try again or copy to SD card for every app...........I re-flashed 2.1 and am just manually loading the apps from the store............ughhh, it's a pain, but I'm alright with it............Otterbox Case will arrive in 3 days..........and hopefully I wont have to do this again.
Guest johnh123 Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Just dropped mine for the first time with the otter box. Fell from about four feet on to concrete. Just bounced around a bit. No marks on the phone or the case.
Guest vinokirk Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 I have seen nothing but good reviews about the otter box, does it made the phone sticky as its silicone? OP- i know its a bit obvious, but id start by putting the SDcard in my computer to xfer the files accross. You could even open the phone up to get to the inner SD card
