Guest psych0t1c Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 OK, here is the rundown. I use my phone for sat nav every now and then. Copilot is the app of choice. I have an passive cradle which I connect to charger as needed. The audio from the phone however is crap, but not that bad because the visual cues are good enough for me basically. Of course in order to not miss any exits I keep it turned on, but it is hard to understand esp. witrh music playing on the car stereo. I just notice there is some noise, tone down stereo and then go back up once the turn is made. I pondered getting a fastmute device (which connects to the car and the smartphone, basically whenever there is audio signal from the smartphone it mutes the car speakers and puts the device signals on the car speakers. Runs 100+ bucks though. Now this afternoon I haooened to ride along and I happened to receive a call. The car has a factory installed handsfree BT kit, which works fine. I get the ringtone + speech to the car speakers. During the call copilot made an announcement in the background. And it was coming through the car speakers. Not, this sparked my interest. I know that I can stream via A2DP or whatever its called but the car BT kit only dies handsfree protocol. Is there a way to "hack" the phone to route media output into the handsfree profile by default? I think this would result in the following behaviour: when playing stereo and announcement is made by Copilot into the Handsfree profile, the radiom mutes, I can hear the announcement on the speakers and then stereo resumes automatically. I have not found any app allowing this. Is there some kind of trick/hack that could enable that?

Guest psych0t1c Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Thnnks for the other pointer, I had found this before but not tried it, because the BT "headset" / earpiece is a different BT protocol/service then BT handsfree. But I will give it a try now so I can definately say "workd not", which unfortunately I expect. Thanks for your effort.
Guest psych0t1c Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 As expected, it does not work. Copilot seems to be in the mood of ignoring anything in the headphone jack and forces the announcements through the device speaker, even if a headset or audio cable is attached. I am not sure if this is expected behavior or a bug, filed a report. Funnily, I cannot even reproduce the "copilot announcement came through via BT hanssfree" I experienced earlier. I figure the ROM change must have done that in. Now CoPilot always mutes itself totally when a call is going through the vehicle BT handsfree. Aweomse idea. So good for missing crucial turns and making a late appearance just because you had a short phone call. The idiots should be flogged. Any ideas on how to modify, hack or circumvent this? Given the circumstances i'd even be happy if it just put out to headset so I can get a Fastmute...
