occasionally input and cpu gets super slow?

Running 81xx with both modaco tweaks.

Occasionally, most often when I am in the train and there are a lot of 3g handshakes going on, my phone will suddenly crawl on touchscreen and cpu-related activities. For example, on the homescreen my live wallpaper will still be smooth (thanks to the build.prop tweak), but swiping between panes and the transition animation looks to be at less than 5fps.

Of course restarting solves the problem, but I would prefer not having to restart my phone after every train ride. I have tried killing a few running processes with the default application list, but I haven't tried a dedicated task manager yet.

Edit--oh, and another indication that it happens is the capacative buttons. They get unresponsive and at worst they dont even vibrate or the vibrate is delayed. Which I think is a little strange because they always vibrate even under extreme circumstances normally, in my experience.

Had this a few times myself (Stock o2 2.1 , with and without that build.prop tweak )

One of the times it happens most often for me (and most annoyingly , is when I try to end a call ... The screen won't respond , so I can't press the call end button - then the screen will go black , and I'll be able to wake it with the wake button , but the screen will not respond ,so I am stuck at the lock screen - Only option is to drop the Battery out .

Every time this happens I get angry and swear I am going to de-commision the Streak ... but then it behaves again and I decide to give it another chance !

.....Hopefully Froyo won't be long !

If you get a solution, I would be interested as I get the same problem. Thought it was launcher pro or ADW Launcher but it has still done it back on the stock launcher. I have noticed that my memory does go down from around 220mb to less than 150mb with nothing else extra running but even stopping and starting services it doesn't make a difference and a reboot is the only option. (had 237 Mb free this morning after reboot and now got 176M available memory free !! but working Ok for now...)

I used to get this then I realised I wasn't always holding the phone vertically when I tried to do it.holding the phone in portrait mode stopped this for me

I am fairly certain the issue I describe is a result of trying to send data in the middle of a handshake. The issue doesn't happen too often on the above-ground trains I take, but in the subway if I am going between stations and I'm trying to send/receive a packet I can easily reproduce the issue.

So I guess one band-aid to the issue would be to turn of data if you're in an environment with a lot of handshakes (subway). Not an ideal solution, but I the suspect the problem runs deeper than android; my old windows mobile phone also had issues when leaving cell range in the middle of sending a packet (though in this case it meant I was unable to send SMS'es until restarting my phone). I wonder if anybody running 1.6 has experienced similar issues? If I get time I might backup my phone and restore to 1.6 just to test.

Not sure if it is the data handshake as I had mine at home and didn't lose signal (but not sure 100%) and it still did it ??? unless it is switching from hsdpa, 3G to E etc.. but wil test again this weekend and see what happens :)

This might be a false lead, but I also noticed the problem when I switched away from the 'no lock' app for a bit because the fact any button wakes your phone was annoying me. Of course now I know the problem can occur independent of that, but perhaps refreshing your home screen out of the lock screen could also be a problem. Might be worth looking into.

Edit--this also just occurred to me, is there a terminal command or set of commands that I can use to perform a partial reboot of certain system levels? It might help to understand where the issue is, and at the very least it would be more convenient than rebooting the entire system.

Im not sure if my problem is related, Ill just be playing on it, and it randomly freezes and does a mini reset. It doesnt fully reset, it just shows the O2 splash screen for 10 seconds then comes up woth the lock screen, very annoying
