Guest Sebastian404 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Not a problem, I only brought it up so people reading my post would know I had some authority on the matter. It's odd that you're having issues, I take it you saw the edits I made to my previous post? Yeah, I tried extracting it first, and then just to prove I was not going mental I applied it using clockwork mod... now my device wont boot, its stuck in some loop during the boot animation... most odd...
Guest AstuteSoup Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 (edited) Yeah, I tried extracting it first, and then just to prove I was not going mental I applied it using clockwork mod... now my device wont boot, its stuck in some loop during the boot animation... most odd... Just (re)downloaded from my server and applied to a clean r7 install with your latest build of ClockworkMod. Everything worked fine, although I just noticed I left the Orange wallpaper in there; I started from a fresh copy of the framework from OUK_P729BV1.0.0B08. edit: I know it's not really important if you can boot with my framework, getting at the changes is all that really matters. However, a thought did just occur that perhaps you've got an apk associated with the android.uid.system user id that was signed with a different certificate, i.e. not platform. Guest mELIANTE Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 (edited) Hey again Seb. I just realized, having run the task manager for the first time, that the total RAM reported now is only 402MB, instead of the original 414... Is it related to your ROM or did I mess up somewhere? :) Also, it appears that the black options list is not exclusive to browser but to any options list. Edited December 24, 2010 by mELIANTE
Guest Sebastian404 Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Hey again Seb. I just realized, having run the task manager for the first time, that the total RAM reported now is only 402MB, instead of the original 414... Is it related to your ROM or did I mess up somewhere? :) remember this is based on OUK_P729BV1.0.0B08... I tend not to use task manager but 'free' from the comand line (because I'm old sk00l) So this is on r8 & OUK_P729BV1.0.0B08: # free free total used free shared buffers Mem: 412480 235268 177212 0 7956 Swap: 0 0 0 Total: 412480 235268 177212[/code] which is (I think) 402.8125MB.
Guest Sebastian404 Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 So guys.... R8 is ready to go, but since its 90% 'bug' fixes and enhancments to R7... should I call it R7 Service Pack 1? I can only imagine the confusion having 3 files to download will give people... but then if Im going to replace the R7 with R7SP1... might as well call it R8.... So users... what do you think?

The same program (zte) showed me 414 in your R6. I asked because I was messing around with fillyjonk before I opted for yours and I was affraid something from that test might have caused this, even though I wiped everything before installing. Yes, maybe it's just a conversion change, I don't think that 12MB of RAM have just vanished. PS: I just remembered I used another gralloc.msm7k.so (the one in fillyjonk hw addon), maybe that is allocating more memory to the GPU? Wild guess I suppose :D So guys.... Maybe both? I don't feel like wiping everything again, just 24h after I did it lol If an SP1 could be made, for others like me, which would only take some files to be replaced, without having to reinstall a full ROM I think that would be much appreciated ;) PS: I'm somewhat of obsessive compulsive when installing new ROMS. MUST.WHIPE.EVERYTHING :) Edited December 24, 2010 by mELIANTE

Ready to test r8 out, where will we get it. LoA Service Pack would be more convenient. Perhaps both an SP and r8 would be useful. Just a couple of points though on R7 - HTML5 appears not to be fully supported... and please add the stock EMail app in. The EMail app is easy to add oneself, but I'm struggling to know what the issue is with HTML5 - browser version? Or something else. The App drawer freezes completely sometimes... the display artifacts have already been covered above. ...and HW acceleration is not enabled in build.prop, despite Stephen Harper's table... not an issue, just an observation. Guest PsychoChimp Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 R8 is less confusing, people can still apply it without wiping first so it will act as a sort of "service pack". Chimp

A would personally prefer just to flash a service pack instead of the whole thing. Would it be much trouble making BOTH options available? We all appreciate your hard work and nobody wants to force you to do anything, but i think I would be great to make a simple update to existing r7.

As daft as it sounds, m.mafiawars.com uses HTML5 and loads OK with my own BladeVillain ROM, but not on my daughter's R7 ROM - just get a script error. Forgive the poxy url - it is just pertinent! Guest heavyduty00 Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 can someone give me a quick guide on how to install apps2sd and does r8 have apps2sd? thanks

Well, LanceH has ruined Christmas :( well spotted, I have no real idea why that should not work, something I need to look into, Im a bit too drunk/pissed off to be much use looking at DDM to try and debug that right now... I'll look into tomorrow probably... S

I just tested this by changing the user-agent on my desktop browser and I was able to reproduce the problem. From the JSON that the site returns it seems there should be a redirect to unsupported.php (which would presumably inform the user that their setup is unsupported) but there's an error with their backend. There appears to be nothing wrong with the user-agent sent by the r7 browser (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-GB; ZTE-BLADE Build/ERE27) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17), the fault must lie with the site's user-agent parsing / logic. I'd be interested to know what the BladeVillain browser sends though... Edited December 24, 2010 by AstuteSoup

The difference is that user-agent with the STOCK rom says 'Orange San Francisco Build/ERE37' rather than 'ZTE-BLADE Build/ERE27' Installing a fresh copy of r7, editing the ro.product.mode in build.prop to be 'ro.product.model=Orange San Francisco', seems to fix that one tho...... Considering the number of ZTE Blade devices that are called "ZTE Blade" I'm surprised that mafia wars has not spotted that. Edited December 24, 2010 by Sebastian404

Guest Len Ash Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 (edited) Oh well, there goes that theory. Yep - just tried with Blade running Freekers modded BladeVillain and spot on. Note that I only chose the crappy MW site coz it was easy and repeatable... other sites alos crap out. I'm having problems with Contacts failing to send SMS text too, but that's another story. Guest Sebastian404 Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 Yep - just tried with Blade running Freekers modded BladeVillain and spot on. what is the 'ro.product.model' line in your build.prop set at be? and what other sites do you have problems with?
Guest Len Ash Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 what is the 'ro.product.model' line in your build.prop set at be? and what other sites do you have problems with? ro.product.model=BladeVillain
Guest Sebastian404 Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 ro.product.model=BladeVillain Well that makes no sense.... since setting it to that works too, but ZTE-BLADE does not....
Guest reluctant_traveller Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 First post here. Purchased 2 blades yesterday, applied your modified clockwork-recovery and then your R7 ROM image with no problems - everything seems great so far :0 My query is, I have read about rooting and installing superboot before installing clockwork on other ROM images - is this necessary? I see the superuser icon in the menu, and was able to unlock the phone too, am I missing anything by not installing superboot or the clockwork-recovery from the market?
