Guest gsnares Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 (edited) Unfortunately my power button is no longer responding. It will not put the phone to sleep or wake it up or select the options in the recovery startup. I have put on the lock screen widget at home to lock the screen and installed the trackpad wake up option. Also I'm using rom manager for new Modaco Roms so no longer need to boot into recovery. I have put on a zagg invisible shield so really don't want to send the phone back. There is no damage to the phone at all and certainly no water damage. Should I do something about it? (the phone works fine apart from that.) Thanks for your replies. Edited October 29, 2010 by gsnares
Guest bpivk Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Clockwork Mod has an option to test keys so you can use that to check if the button is broken. But I suspect that it is if it's now working in recovery.

Open Spare Parts -> End button behavior -> change from 'Nothing' to 'Go to sleep' Cheers dariwari
Guest gsnares Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 (edited) Thankyou both for your quick replies. Dariwari, I tried that already thanks, sorry I forgot to mention that. Bpvik, Where do you get clockwork mod to test the buttons please? I see clockwork have written rom manager, is it by them or through rom manager? Edited October 5, 2010 by gsnares
Guest dusauton Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Hi there, I am actually facing the same issue, but in my case it definitely seems to be hardware related, as it works from times to times.. Would anybody know whether it is possible to use the trackball as replacement to the power button to switch on/off the phone? When my Desire is turned off, it's really a pain to turn it on again... I have to press the Power button 100 times before it eventually works... kind of annoying ;-) Thanks!

If you download one of pauls latest roms you can wake the phone up by pressing in the trackpad as one of the options. That will cure the problem your experiencing.
Guest gsnares Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Ok, i found out how to get to clockwork recovery through rom manager and carried out the key test. When I pressed the power button it did not register so I can assume that it no longer works . I just need to get my head around the fact of do I really need it. I'm quite happy with trackpad wake just not use to it that's all. Thanks for all of your input and really looking forwards to Pauls R10 release. Cheers
Guest gsnares Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 How do you turn it on btw? It comes on as you place the battery in.
Guest dusauton Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Hi gsnares, Thanks for your snapy reply! The problem is not to wake up the phone, but mostly to swicth it ON (e.g. after you've run out of baterry), and also to switch the screen off. I'm not sure how I can solve that...
Guest gsnares Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Dasauton, to put the phone in sleep/lock just download a lock screen widget from the market place and place it onto your home screen for ease. With regards to turning it on. Once you charge the battery it should come on anyway.
Guest spammyspam Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 The phone is less than a year old. Any reason why you don't want to get it fixed under warranty?
Guest dusauton Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Thanks gsnares for your advices, this kind of widget would actually solve my issue, though it won't make it as comfortable as if my hardware was working properly... but anyway I have already tried to send it back to HTC, and they claimed my phone had experienced some humidity damage... though I really don't think I have ever done anything wrong, that a standard phone couldn't handle... and they won't repair it... it seriously piss*s me off but that how good HTC's warranty can be.... Anyway I will be using R9 for the time being with the trackball waking up option... and so be it ;-)
Guest gsnares Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Update:-- Anyway deceided it was annoying me more than anything and put to htc stock. Went to tmobile store who were as good as gold. Anyway, one week later receive an email stating that it has liquid damage . The phone has not been in any water at all. It has a zagg invishield and in a silicone case , and the only thing i can think of it was in my pocket when I got caught in the rain. So I called Tmobile and they informed me I have 2 options. First option wait for a quote for repair. Or if I have insurance, go through insurance for replacement. I just asked for the handset back and will try and root again and carry on. Been using a new iphone and miss my desire. Be Warned, DO NOT LET YOUR DESIRE GET A DROP OF LIQUID NEAR IT!

Been using a new iphone and miss my desire. Be Warned, DO NOT LET YOUR DESIRE GET A DROP OF LIQUID NEAR IT! Hey gsnares, I had the same problem with my desire due to the invisible shield. Water got into the power button and all the buttons below the screen. you are right ,when applying the liquid to adhere the shield it went behind the buttons. I have a suggestion which i did. I opened the phone and cleaned the affected areas with rubbing alcohol, (do this gently or you can make it worse.)Leave the phone off at least a few hours and try it again. So far , all my buttons are working. I hope this can help.
Guest gsnares Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the information Dee. I'm not accusing the application of the invisible shield as the reason for the exposure as it has been on their fine for 4 months and i've never had a problem. I was especially careful when applying that. The phone never went near water and was also in a silicone case. It rained badly one day and was in my trouser pocket. Thats it , both litmus contacts that are visible in the back of the phone were still white. Tmobile report liquid damage inside. Tmobile advised me to contact HTC indepently or my phone insurance. Why ?...... Edit:... I have a new dilemma now. Asked tmobile back for the phone and now its back to stock i don't know how i'm going get into recovery as the phone power button does not work. Any ideas please??? Edited October 31, 2010 by gsnares
Guest gsnares Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Anyway to reroot phone now that power button is not working please?
Guest Frankish Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 How about Unrevoked? Wouldn't that work? I dropped my Desire in a glass of Coke. Around a third of the Desire was in it. Cleaned all inside with contact cleaner and only trackpad scrolling doesn't work now. Trackpad press still works. Guess i was lucky! When you say both litmus contacts were white which ones do you mean? The one behind battery and the one on the battery? There is one more just above the micro usb connector you can't see unless you open it. Maybe that one has turned.
Guest gsnares Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 Hi Frankish no none of the papers are pink all white. Tmobile sent me a picture showing the power button area all corroded. Going to return it under my insurance I think .
