Voice over IP with ZTE Blade

One thing I miss from my iPhone experience is the smooth implementation and the quality of VOIP apps.

I tried 3CXPhone on pulse and I was reasonably happy with it. Now the Blade is freezing on 3CXPhone blocking the calls after a couple of mins.

QUESTION: What do you use for VOIP calls, does it work with the integrated speaker/loud speaker?

(This is really the only part that bothers me with the Blade)

nimbuzz can be used for skype and standard sip calls, i use it with vyke.

I am running MCR r3 and have just installed the new Skype. The sounds comes out the speaker, as does Sipdroid. Anyone know why, or how to fix this?

GRRRR same sh.. as with the pulse, because of this Prob with Pulse i wanted to change... (want to use sipdroid)

may it works with fring, that works on Pulse but is not really an alternative to sipdroid for using voip -

may u Vote here that a Solution will be found...

Another thing I have noticed is the difference in size of the installs.

Skype on 3 is 1.34M

Skype is 13.75M

A huge difference. I know that the main Skype probably has video calling (that cannot be used on the SF/Blade), but that is 8% of the total memory that can be used for apps - which to me seems a little excessive.

Anyone been enterprising enough to try to remove some of the bloat?

I have registered a support ticket with Skype but have not yet heard anything. I don't know how easy this is to fix but it is a showstopper bug on this handset.

Glad you posted this on here as I was going to ask about the skype app and users that are on the '3' network. So the Skpe on 3 app (originally for the hero?) works ok on the blade?

I was worried that there would not be any settings options in the official skype android release to change so that it logs on and doesn't use your data allowance for calls. If the skype on 3 app uses their 'free forever' offer then no need for ,me to install & try the android version just released :)

The Three one worked fine, but does not do Skype out, unlike the larger Skype application. From my end of the conversation, call quality was good. I did not check whether it is used my internet allowance, so I can't tell you. BTW I am on three PAYG and get the usual 150M bytes with each top-up.

I tried installing Skype yesterday. Seemed to install fine but wouldn't let me log into my Skype account. After seeing all the complaints about the memory footprint and inability to quit the app, I promptly uninstalled it.

Will try it again in a few months when they will hopefully have fixed the issues.

You quit the app by going to status>log out. UI is not well thought out. No way to stop offline contacts being displayed or to have them added to the bottom of the list. Voice calls via the speakerphone only on SanFFran. App is really early beta and rushed out in a hurry.

There's a few threads on here that link to the download, the 3 website says the SF isn't compatible, think that's just to try and force you to buy a 3 branded phone. Works fine.

I think 137 is not (but not 100% sure), but 124 works with front speaker. I've traced problem and built fixed 161, which works.

This is from a newbie with 2 posts. Not that I don't appreciate your efforts, but there are too many instances of malicious apps on android, and with the increase in identify thefts & premium SMS theft, this is too risky.
