Guest chris9181 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Not sure I have the courage to Root it and update the ROM. I am worried that I dont have the technical nouse to sort it if something goes wrong. What would i be missing if I stuck to the stock Orange SF? Cheers Chris
Guest Cazomino05 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 (edited) people will probably hate me for saying this but I'm sticking with it stock for a while it's certainly fast enough at the moment waiting for a froyo ROM :) also allows for any hardware problems with the device since I can just take it back ;) so far I've installed launcher pro but none of the Orange app's work for me any more due to me using a t-mobile sim card only exception being homescreen switcher which is actually a useful addition in my honest opinion <offtopic>I have to wonder why Orange insisted on installing another maps/navigation app when google already have one... same for backing up contacts</offtopic> EDIT: not that I'm expecting hardware problems it's just a fact of life so far I've had no problems whatsoever to clarify Edited October 5, 2010 by Cazomino05

I thought I read launcer pro was already on as an option for home screen switcher? I presume I would still have full access to the normal market with stock?
Guest Cazomino05 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 T-Mobile sim is working perfectly in mine :) nice to have the android allowance because Oranges allowance is bad! You need to install launcher pro then you can just choose between the launchers with the app it's useful rather than changing the defaults manually like having to unset the default launcher then pressing home and choosing that way and yeah you do have full access to the android market, the orange market is broke but I've heard there aren't many if any free apps on there anyway ;)
Guest jdtanner Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Mine arrived about 10 mins ago and the unlock code is hopefully on its way from NCK...I'm watching this thread with interest :) John
Guest con500 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Launcher Pro is not on there out of the box, but is avialable via market. However there is a "homescreen selector" in settings that allows to switch between the orange H/S or a stock android (eclair) screen. Iv noticed that using the oange screen you can switch from landscape to portrait and the screen outlay switches to, seems the andrid screen is fixed...unless using the keyboard. You can also remove most of the orange widgets from the homescreen (not permanently) by jus dragging off there, which is easier if you just want to have your own/android stuff on there. Although the orange dock icons will be there.
Guest Cazomino05 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 (edited) one thing I'd say is update your MMS settings when you get your phone if you log into my t-mobile > my phone > configure your phone for messaging, internet and email then choose the HTC desire (it gives you the settings as plain text) then input the MMS, internet and SMS settings appropriately I know I had problems receiving MMS messages before doing this Edited October 5, 2010 by Cazomino05

Guest chris9181 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks but you have lost me on this bit about android allowance? Soz, I knew there was something else! I read somewhere that the there is a number to call to register the phone with orange and some had said that they had done that first before going through the unlocking process. Is this correct please? Thanks again
Guest Cazomino05 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 T-mobile give android contract customers 3GB/data a month soft cap that's what I mean by android allowance and I dunno about registering my phone was bought from a shop which didn't require it but there's also an online link iirc

You will notice the SF will have these odd glitches of poor performance soon enough I can tell you that! I got to the point where I thought sod it Ill give the custom rom a go and I took the plunge....I was a bit nervous at the time but am so thankful of doing it as it has made my phone sooo much faster and I dont have anything to moan about it now except not being able to find a decent date app that updates!! Anyway I cannot recommend it highly enough as it makes the SF a completely different handset and even more of a bargain
