Guest Stuart W Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 How long is everyones device taking to charge from empty? Myns 3hrs and the whole phone gets a bit warm for the 1st part of charging then cools down towards the end. Just wondering if thats normal? Thanks
Guest rjm2k Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 I reckon mine charged in around 2.5 hours from 10% last night
Guest Trappedin80's Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 About 3 hour's for me (maybe a little over that) from practically nothing left, though.
Guest Stuart W Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Ok thanks guys, obviously normal then just seems quite a long time coming from a Nokia!
Guest prusling Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 It's worth looking at using a higher-rated adaptor - I have some rated at 1A - coupled with a good quality lead.
Guest clonmult Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 I haven't timed how long it takes for a charge, but have noticed that it seems to charge considerably faster via USB than any other phone I've ever owned.

Guest Hpman48 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Don't suppose you have a link to one please? Charging time is really loooong - more than 3h for a full charge up. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.42563 Take care of the Plug type! but i dont believe that a more powerful adapter decreases the charging time. Guest k0nrad Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 but i dont believe that a more powerful adapter decreases the charging time. Hpman48 Unless the battery/charging chip on board is programmed with some silly limitations, of course it's faster. t=Q/I so for given capacity the greater current, the shorter time.
Guest UncleFista Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 The phone will pull 0.7 amps when plugged into a charger that will provide it. The usb bus on a pc will provide 0.5 amps, shared between the usb slots. Mains chargers charge my phone up in a lot less time than plugging it into usb. Check using spare parts and it'll say whether it sees the charger as a .5a (usb) or higher (ac). I have a car charger that charges my phone in no time, it charges my phone up by 30% on a regular 10 minute journey I make. My car charger was only 99p delivered from Amazon :P
Guest Treacles Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Ok thanks guys, obviously normal then just seems quite a long time coming from a Nokia! Hmmm, Nokia? o.O
Guest mELIANTE Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Hmmm, Nokia? o.O Yeah, their chargers are 850mAh, at least my 5800's was. It charged the phone in 1:45h...

Thats the theory. but as i know the charging electronic is inside the device and if you use a 10A@5V charger your formula can't work (maybe one time :P ) I used this one http://eu.kensington.com/kensington/en/gb/...dapter+usb.aspx today but it was slooow too. The long charging time is good for akku lifetime but bad for the user :D. Hpman48
Guest igors_s Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 (edited) Got my SF replaced today (faulty power button) and was supprised how quickly the new one charges. Old would charge to full from 20% in around 8-10 hours. one night charge would rarely put it to full. New one did 45% in an hour. does not feel hot. Will monitor the times over next couple of days. Guest kissofjudas Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 (edited) well I have a tomtom live edition, and guess what just noticed the output is 5v 1A - the charger has a usb socket where the data/charging lead plugs into will try a comparison when time allows. noticed there are quite a few Samsung chargers on ebay for about £2:99 Model : SAMSUNG ATADU10UBE Input : AC 100-240V – 50/60 Hz 0.15A Output : DC 5V - 0.7A or for £3:99 GENUINE NOKIA AC-10X MICRO USB CHARGER E63 N900 8600 The Nokia High Efficiency Charger AC-10X is an environmentally friendly, powerful micro USB travel charger that efficiently charges your compatible device such as the Nokia N97. Based on a common energy-rating system for chargers, it has a 5-star rating for energy saving as it consumes minimal power if left plugged in after the battery has fully charged. Lightweight and easy to carry, this charger is an ideal companion for your next trip. The lower energy consumption means you can save money and the environment at the same time. * Dimensions: 28 x 75 x 70 mm (E), 50 x 75 x 60 mm (X) * Weight: 71-82 g (depending on country variants) * Cable length: 1800 mm * Connectors: micro USB charging connector * Cable management: Velcro strip * Operating temperature: -5°C to +45°C * Input voltage: 100-240V AC 50/60Hz * Output current: 1200 mA * Standby power consumption: < 30 mW * Nokia High Efficiency Charger AC-10 is Energy Star v.2.0 compliant, meeting strict energy-efficiency criteria NOT SURE ABOUT THE OUTPUT VOLTAGE ON THE NOKIA BUT AS IT'S MICRO USB ! Guest oh!dougal Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) Unless the battery/charging chip on board is programmed with some silly limitations, of course it's faster. t=Q/I so for given capacity the greater current, the shorter time. Its really not "silly" to have limitations in the charge controller chip. There are very good reasons for charge rate limitation -- 1/ Safety - exploding/burning phones are not a good idea. 2/ Battery durability (how many months before it weakens) - until I have a source for a replacement battery, I want this one to stay good as long as it possibly can. Faster charging generally reduces the battery's life -- note that this is not a matter of simple capacity (runtime) its about how the capacity holds up after several hundred charge/discharge cycles. The charging system and battery can be expected to have been engineered to match each other - if anything, they'll be charging a fraction fast, sacrificing months of battery lifetime for instant customer gratification from shortening charge time. Its marketing fighting engineering, as usual! If your SF is running down quickly and charging slowly, one really basic thing to try is powering it off, even briefly (and you could also remove the battery if you fancy), and then rebooting. If you have some App doing its own thing non-stop, its going to use up the battery quickly, and on the charger it'll divert power from charging the battery. A cold boot should halt the runaway app - at least until the next time you use that app. PS -- Note that its NOT fully charged when the 'green' light comes on. That's only indicating 90% full. Leave it charging for as long as possible! Edited November 2, 2010 by oh!dougal
Guest kissofjudas Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Just charged mine from 42% > Charged using my TomTom charger 1hr 10mins
Guest chris54621 Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 battery charge last from days to hours depending upon what ur using the mobile for like nav, browse or calls it took a while for me to figure out how to use this phone
Guest Tom200 Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 Sorry for reviving this old thread. Mine charged from 0-100% in 3h 30 min. After I got it back from repair, charge time dropped to 3h 10 min. After this, battery life also seems shorter. What could be the reason? I've got some other questions... If I use a Iphone charger, it shows up as usb not ac. The charger is 1A, instead of the stock 700ma. Could this damage the battery? Also, I usually charge with the phone turned off. Is this not recommended?
Guest CrystalLettuce Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 Doesn't seem a lot slower than my old Nokia, but I don't remember that well. Very slow charging off my USB hub though, obviously.
