Guest jdtanner Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) I've noticed that there is a distinct hissing noise on the audio output of my SF when playing back music (eaither streamed or via MP3). This hissing continues for about 3-4 seconds after I stop the music with a very quiet click to silence. It does this with the speaker and headphones, and I'm a little concerned that it might be a hardware fault; this is a pain as I wanted the SF to be an iPod replacement ;) If somebody could check for me and post their results it would be very much appreciated, John **Edit** Sorry, should have mentioned that if the issue is particular to my SF then it is going back...but I'll want another one :) Edited October 6, 2010 by jdtanner

And same noise in calls.
Guest Olly232 Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Yes I can hear a hiss too during normal phone calls.
Guest Azurren Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Errr.. Every phone / mp3 player I have ever owned has a slight "hiss" The Pulse had quite a bad hiss Honestly it isn't a £700/£800+ iPhone 4.. It's a £99 masterpiece :) If you buy things on the cheap you have to accept these things

Cheers, John

Cheers, John Do you hear that same hiss in calls? It's a bit too loud for me to be able to igore it =)
Guest jdtanner Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Do you hear that same hiss in calls? It's a bit too loud for me to be able to igore it =) Nope, just called the answerphone to check and there was no hiss from the phone ear piece. If I plug in headphones, there is a hiss :)
Guest linkoo Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Ok, thanks for checking. Thinking of returning mine but I'm afraid postage back and forth will be too expensive.
Guest fremar Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Ok, thanks for checking. Thinking of returning mine but I'm afraid postage back and forth will be too expensive. I sent my phone back to UK from Sweden. The package was 486g and I sent it as REK for 145 SEK. Think the postage from UK to Sweden was about £10?
Guest sipart Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Nope, just called the answerphone to check and there was no hiss from the phone ear piece. If I plug in headphones, there is a hiss :) Do you use supplied headphones or your own? I have just listened to my first podcast and the background hiss is really bad (ok in the car through a aux socket due to car noise). Do you think it may be due to the use of headphones for fm radio? I use my own in-ear headphones.
Guest sanfrandroid Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 I received my sanfran today and using it on Vodafone UK. I also noticed that hissing noise and it is louder than any other phone I used before (Nokia, Iphone).
Guest GraviticVortex Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 So hiss is bad enought to make SF useless as music player then? Thats a real bummer...
Guest crazyfool_1 Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 I just got my san fran and when making a phone call there is a very noticable sound in the background, best way to describe I spose is white noise or faint hiss Is this normal?
Guest linkoo Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Yes it's way too loud... There have been others saying that call quality is excellent so it's probably not normal. I've contacted orange by mail, let's see what they have too say.
Guest Azurren Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) So hiss is bad enought to make SF useless as music player then? Thats a real bummer... If his device is faulty then yes, maybe for him But the only time you can hear the hiss a non-faulty SF is when the music player goes quiet between tracks :) Turn the volume up and strain your ears, then you can hear it Edited October 7, 2010 by Azurren
Guest Rem1x Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) Hmm, I've been using mine as a main player as my Zen is playing up. It's not loud, but the music sounds fine enough, with no hiss when playing music. When it's not playing music there are hisses and pops, but I don't tend to keep the headphones in if I'm not listening to music :) Some times stutters, when I'm using the phone, but that's fine. edit: started fm radio, closed it, and now every thing is much louder ;) Edited October 7, 2010 by Rem1x
Guest Lecter79 Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 I don't have any problems during calls but the ringtones make a strange noise at the end. I have done a complete restore back to the stock images and it is still happening. Any ideas or is it back to orange for my third new phone !?! I have uploaded to youtube as well so you can hear.
Guest dadashi Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 that's what a poor headphone jack connection sounds like. Tried turning the jack in the socket? Other headphones?
Guest Borderland Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 So hiss is bad enought to make SF useless as music player then? Thats a real bummer... I have no problem with the SF and an A2DP headset.
