OK ive seen a lot people wishing we could get 2.2 on the GT540, and LG UK support have said they see no reason why LG wont release a 2.2 update being as they are already doing 2.1, however we still dont know if it will ever actually happen and if we will get 2.2

Im sure most of you are aware of the LG Optimus ONE (P500) which lg are releasing this month which comes with 2.2 already installed.

I noticed via the CSMG notification that the firmware has been released for this handset on there:

http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/popup/e...o_csmg_noti.jsp

Europe LGP500.ANEU V10A 2010-10-06

Now here is my thought.

The Optimus ONE is exactly the same spc as the gt540, even the same CPU uetc.. Only difference is that is has a 3.2 inch capacitive screen instead of a 3.0 inch resistive screen..

So if the hardware and specs are the same, i wonder if this rom would work on a gt540? THus giving us 2.2

That's a very interesting supposition, new!

Would like to think that in 3-6 months time, we could be playing with 2.2!

if the specs are the same for both models bar the screen i see no reason why it wouldn't run 2.2. would be good if someone could get hold of the file for 2.2 from the new handset cus i would try it on my phone. they said we wouldnt get 2.1 but here we are with it. all be it with some bugs in.

I am sorry to disappoint you guys but this two phones are totally different from what I can see here http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&a...74&id2=2485 , but if we compare it with the LG Chic E720 we are back in business :) http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&a...74&id2=2575. So if somebody finds a ROM from the chic I'm willing to try it.

if the phone was released @ 2.1 it will still show as v10, ONLY if the phone will be updated to lets say 2.2 then it gonna change to v20. Got the idea ? :)

v10 has nothing to do with 1.6, I think v10 means the first version.

Both E720 and P500 run Froyo.

Ah right i see. so when they update it to 2.2 it will show is v20 as version 2

The embedded OS of both P500 and E720 is Froyo already so v10 is Froyo

I'm tempted to test out the Chic 2.1 rom, can't really afford to brick my only Android though. Even though I've bricked much more expensive phones.

I will try it. If someone can get hold of 2.2 Rom i will load it on mine and let you know how it goes.

Acording to LG Feature page the Optimus One (P500) features a 600MHz CPU, so I guess GSM Arena is more accurate than PDAdb.

If this is right, so is the yet-to-be-released-in-November Optimus Chic (E720) featuring a 600MHz.

If they are able to run Froyo 2.2, so is the Optimus GT540, it's just a matter of us getting the firmware to be flashed.

This is also getting comments on http://android.modaco.com/content/lg-gt540...-chic-on-gt540/

At this point (being in the UK) I'd be delighted to just get an official 2.1 release... (but yes, 2.2 would...be...*awesome*.)
