Guest cocole Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Hi I just got the orange SF and unlocked it using codes from nck. When i try to connect to 3 UK it says that my sim card does not allow a connection to this network. Are there any more settings that need to be added to connect? Gareth
Guest Cobble Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Fine here. Have you tried choosing the 'Select automatically' option?

Gareth You probably just need to add the 3uk Internet APN settings Settings>wireless and network settings>mobile neTworks> access point names Press menu and add the 3 apn settings (three.co.uk for apn) The mms settings are listed in this forum somewhere, I'd link it but typing this on my mobile :)
Guest cocole Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 i have but it comes up as roaming is this normal?
Guest Cobble Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Are the APN settings not only for data? Anyway they are apn="three.co.uk" mmsc="http://mms.um.three.co.uk:10021/mmsc" mmsproxy="mms.three.co.uk" mmsport="8799" mcc="234" mnc="20" MMS settings are the exact same except fill in the 'APN type' as MMS.
Guest Cobble Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 i have but it comes up as roaming is this normal? Yip that's normal. 3 phones roam on Orange if they can't get a 3G signal.

When i try to connect to 3 UK it says that my sim card does not allow a connection to this network. Are there any more settings that need to be added to connect? Gareth I got the same yesterday. All settings and APNs correct and fully working untill yesterday. I think this was a 3 network problem as all ok now
Guest cocole Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Well that explains a lot as i can only get 3g outdoors here. No roaming charges then?
Guest cocole Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 does this mean i have to enable allow data roaming to access the internet where there is no 3G signal? Will this be charged? Thanks for all help
Guest Cobble Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Well that explains a lot as i can only get 3g outdoors here. No roaming charges then? Nope. Voice calls whilst roaming are charged as if you were connected to 3 themselves. 3 don't have a 2G network as such, so they've always had to piggy-back onto someone elses (was O2 originally, but now it's Orange). I'm not so sure about 2G/GPRS data charges tho. Hopefully someone else can answer that.
Guest cocole Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 thanks cobble, i've never been charged for data access from a 2g network before but the screen on all my previous phones said it was on the 3 network in a 2g area and this one says orange.
Guest cocole Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Now that's sorted it won't let me make a call. It says call ended as soon as i touch 'dial'
Guest craigyhay Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Now that's sorted it won't let me make a call. It says call ended as soon as i touch 'dial' ive also been getting this probem too, im alright when im on 3g but if the phone roams onto orange 2g then the phone and text messages will stop working though the internet gprs will often still work, the phone and text facility will even still be screwed up even after it moves back to 3g and I have had to use aeroplane mode to off and on the radio and on occasion have had to take battery off to regain phone/txts. the signal itself appears fine from the about phone status page throughout have tried a factory reset and re-flashing the r3 rom i have been using but makes no difference.
Guest jwhitham Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Now that's sorted it won't let me make a call. It says call ended as soon as i touch 'dial' You need to activate the PAYG sim on orange's website to fix this http://www.orange.co.uk/activate
Guest Cobble Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 You need to activate the PAYG sim on orange's website to fix this http://www.orange.co.uk/activate It's not an orange sim. I've no issue myself with roaming onto Orange. I can't get a 3 signal at home, so any calls and texts are sent when roaming on Orange.
Guest jwhitham Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 It's not an orange sim. Hmmm good point, just spent ages yesterday trying to use an Orange contract sim with that problem and it needed the PAYG sim activating first. I'm using my Three sim fine all I added was apn three.co.uk and that was it.
Guest cocole Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 so is it a good idea to activate the orange PAYG sim first?
Guest jwhitham Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 so is it a good idea to activate the orange PAYG sim first? Well I can't see how they can block non orange sims until the the PAYG one is activated. But it's probalby worth a try. I didn't even have to put the PAYG sim in the phone it's still attatched to it's carrier. I just had the register the sim online then about 5 mins later the phone was able to make calls. Could be your problem if you are roaming onto Orange though....
Guest puj Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 I found after i registered the problems went away too, it is a pretty weird security measure.
Guest cocole Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 yeah i registered the orange sim and now it's ok thanks to all
Guest Cobble Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 That's an odd one. Did you buy from an Orange shop or online?
Guest cocole Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 online, i picked it up from the orange shop but it was straight from the delivery packaging. Seems to be working ok now but the wifi has stopped connecting.
Guest tambourine_man Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Hey I also seem to be having a few problems. My SF was bought from a shop so I presume the orange simcard was already registered? Should I register the sim online? Do I need to? So the problems I have is that my phone seems to think it is roaming, and so connects to the orange network. It then also stops me connecting to the internet to use my 3G allowance unless i go to settings and select Data roaming, which makes me worried I may be paying a fee. Any ideas?
Guest Cobble Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 If it was bought in a shop then it should have been registered when they topped up the phone before letting you get your hands on it. The phone should only roam if it can't find a 3 signal. Are you sure that you have a 3 signal available?

I am in Bristol and even when I click Search Networks within the settings options (Network Operatros) Three isn't coming up right now. It always used to and I haven't had problems before. Thanks, what do you think?
