Led Notifcation Doesn't Work

I got my SF the other day and am very happy with it. I have a problem as per the title though. If receive an sms, missed call or email (via gmail) the phone vibrates, the screen lights up, the icon comes up in the taskbar and the led flashes on the back button. But once the screen goes back off again the led isn't lit up anymore. Now ideally I would like the phone to light up the led and not turn on the screen. Reading around it seems this is the normal funcationality, unless I'm mistaken? Also I don't have the pulse led option in the sound menu, don't know if this is normal or not. So if anyone could help it would be appreciated... running paul's r3 btw. Thanks.

You could try installing an app called "Missed Call", from the market.

It has different styles of notifications for missed calls, texts, etc, and also can use phones LED's, and/or audio alerts.

Not sure how it works on the SF, as I haven't used it on this model, but using it on other phones, it does work..

Ok I tried missed call and what happens is when i receive an sms the screen lights up and the led flashes, then when the screen turns off the led is off, if I then wake the phone the led flashes and when the screen then goes off the led is still flashing

Without the app the led only flashes if the screen is on

I'm guessing something is not right as I haven't read of anyone elses san fran acting like this

Any ideas?

At least your screen lights when a call or message comes in mine remains dead :-)

Stock ROM, this is normal behaviour.

After you have missed a call or whatever, the phone does NOTHING to attract your attention to the fact that you have missed something!

The phone might as well be switched off.

It just sits there doing ... nothing!

Sadly, I don't think this is a faulty unit, more likely its a faulty design decision.

I'd like the phone to attract my attention, and show that its got something to tell me ... (and it doesn't need to be subtle). IMHO a double LED flash every 20 seconds would be about the minimum for attention-getting.

It seems a major weakness of the phone -- as a phone!

yh but if the led works after i manually wake the fone and continues working once the screen is off surely this is a bug somewhere?

Also I haven't heard many people complaining about this and a friend of mine says his led flashes when he recieves a message after the screen turns off :S

Depends how much you want it or use it as a phone ... :)

On a missed call, the (back key) led flashes (white, or is that what they call green?) VERY indistinctly and ONLY WHILE the screen is illuminated.

When the screen goes dark, the led stops flashing - thats silly because

1- the led is SO inistinct in normal lighting

2- while its flashing there are two much more obvious 'missed call' indicators plainly visible because the screen is on.

Whats needed is something to indicate "Hey - you should turn on the screen and take a look!"

This is a really poor bit of design.

I'm sure that we aren't the only people who would prefer to be able to see that a call (or message) had been missed WITHOUT having to actively press the ruddy silver button even to check ...

Maybe as more people actually set down their new toy (even for a few minutes), they too will discover that the phone is a bit uncommunicative.

I've read on another forum that people are experiencing the notification light flashing even when the screen is off, which is what I think is the intended behaviour. However I am also experiencing that the LED stops flashing when the screen turns off, unless it is plugged in charging in which case it will continue to flash even when the screen is off.

Any more suggested solutions for this? One of the things I love about my blackberry and my old Nokia 6300, is that I only need to glance at them from across the room to see if I've got a missed call / new message / new email.

cant say I have encountered this myself, led notification could be flashing at me when I wake up in the morning for a text or email I recieved over night, I even like the fact that this overwrites the charging indicator which didnt happen on my old Magic

And you can wake the screen from sleep by pressing any of the front buttons, rather than the silver one -- BUT ONLY (did you guess) when its running off the charger!

I updated to R4, and have a missed call/texts, and my back button is flashing for a few seconds every few minutes, right now, and the phone is not connected to the pc/charger, and i can press the back button and my phone activates...
