Guest Sere83 Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) Hi I am having this problem with my R3 rooted San Fran. I know lots of people are having this issue, has anyone got a definitive answer on what's causing it and how to fix?. Tried a reset did not work. When ever I restart the phone it has high cpu usage then after a while it usually settles down, although sometimes it doesn't. Any help greatly appreciated.... Edited October 7, 2010 by Sere83
Guest Afrodude Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Did you install the r3 and THEN unlock your phone? Mine suddenly went to high CPU usage once i'd unlocked my phone, so i just reinstalled the ROM and the CPU usage went down to normal.
Guest Sere83 Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) No haven't unlocked, although I am intending too. I thought it might be Fancy widgets, HTC keyboard or Launcher pro as I have them installed but seems unlikely as many have this problem.... Mine just starts up and then for about 4/5 mins it has high cpu usage then usually levels out to normal. Really annoying. It's quite rare I turn my phone off to be honest, so not that bad but still would like to fix... I did a hard reset and wiped all data, but seemed to make no difference. Guest Afrodude Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 What process is the high CPU usage? Mine was the Andriod System. (Use OS Monitor)
Guest Sere83 Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) yeah it's android system. Is my only option to do the whole process again? Edited October 7, 2010 by Sere83
Guest Sere83 Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) reflashed, exactly the same issue, android system causing high cpu usage! Bloody nightmare. Really need a fix.... Edited October 7, 2010 by Sere83
Guest PabUK Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) I had this problem sometime after upgrading to custom ROM R3 (not sure if it was immediately after or not). Android System process was using up every spare bit of CPU all the time, making all operations slow and jerky. I tried uninstalling a bunch of recent apps, reinstalling R3 and various other things but it made no difference. I eventually fixed the problem by doing a factory reset and everything went back to normal. I even reinstalled all the apps I had on before the reset (syncing with AppBrain) and the problem has not come back. As a side note, my wife's SF was upgraded to R3 as well and never experienced the issue. Seems completely random at this point! Edited October 7, 2010 by PabUK
Guest Sere83 Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) Yeah it's really wierd. I did a factory reset, re-installed apps....made no differenc. I also reflashed. Thing is after a while it stabilises and goes back to normal. It's not actually too much of an issue for me as my phone is on the majority of the time. Just really annoying that if my battery goes completely dead or I need to restart it could take up to 10 minutes for my system to be acting normal. My friends got an SF with R3 and like your wife his had no such problems. Really annoying cos it's perfect otherwise. Edited October 7, 2010 by Sere83
Guest PabUK Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Well that's 2 things that are different about yours. One is that mine never calmed down after a while. The CPU use was stuck at 100% all of the time in my case. Second is obviously that in my case the factory reset apparently completely resolved my problems. It's been over 24 hours now and I've used the phone plenty today with no recurrence. Still, there must be some common cause as the symptoms are similar and quite a few people have reported this issue now.
Guest Sere83 Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) hmm, maybe i'll see better results with R4. Would just really like to find a definitive answer and fix. Anyone who can help would really appreciate it though, it's really causing issues now as sometimes I restart and it just stays high. Edited October 8, 2010 by Sere83
Guest xzyk Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 (edited) mine does exactly the same things guys. Using OSMonitor it's always the android.system that is the problem. Sometimes it settles down, sometimes it doesn't. There doesn't even seem to be any sense in how long it takes to settles down. I've had it go from high CPU to low in 5mts, other times it takes hours. Reboots, power cycles seem to fix it sometimes but there really doesn't appear to be any logic to it. rooted and using r3. I may have to try a factory reset just to check. Guest feckineejit Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Hello all, i'm on r3 as well and just checked my battery use, mine is showing that i'm using 18% on android system, and using 83% Maps, thing is i haven't even got the map in use how do i sort this out? :)
Guest Afrodude Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Just kill the map process via Advanced Task Killer. It might be running in the background.
Guest feckineejit Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 I have Advanced Task Killer on the phone and i always kill all tasks apart from gentle alarm, sms popups and fancy widgets.
Guest Simon O Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Those that have the high CPU issue can I ask if you are using the MCR r3 without any modifications and have you installed any software before the issue? Are you using the launcher than comes with the MCR (Launcher2) or have to installed an alternative such as ADW.Launcher or LauncherPro?

Fancy Widget is a bit hit and miss with the weather as, I believe, it gets it's data from yr.no I'm not entirely sure but I think the high CPU usage might be caused by the Launcher. Try installing ADW.Launcher from the market. Once installed press home and make it the default launcher when asked. Reboot the phone then check the CPU usage of Android System with OS Monitor.
Guest feckineejit Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Reboot the phone then check the CPU usage of Android System with OS Monitor. Sorry for being a bit dumb but do i need to download OS Monitor from the app market as well?
Guest Simon O Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Sorry for being a bit dumb but do i need to download OS Monitor from the app market as well? Not really. If you have another application that can check the CPU usage then that will work also. Does the default task manager do this?
Guest feckineejit Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 (edited) In task manager under "resource" it says CPU 9% Mem 36% and in OS Monitor under "Process" it says CPU Usage 17% but keeps jumping to about 28% as i'm watching it just went into settings>about phone>battery usage and now the cpu is on 100% nothing else showing as running in there, should that be normal flibblesan? Guest Drizmod Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Hi, first post :) I have the exact same issue where the cpu is at constant 95-99% usage. After looking at many things I found that if i go into my camera application and open the slider for the options for the camera and close it and then close the camera application at this point it stops the high cpu usage. My current cpu usage is 16%. This happens everytime i boot my phone. I have to go go in and out of camera app to lower the cpu usage
Guest Azurren Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Could it be the 3D gallery? The stupid thing re-builds it's database of thumbnails and previews everytime it reboots. Takes forever to load em' all and lags the device for ages When the 3D gallery was added to the Pulse it had the same issue (We had to reboot almost every day) and made the poor old phone unusable. Care to try it? :)
Guest Paul Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Install 'Watchdog Lite' from the Market and see what it reports? P

Guest feckineejit Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 (edited) Install 'Watchdog Lite' from the Market and see what it reports? Hello Paul i installed Watchdog lite and under CPU it has watchdog lite > foreground 2.8% Advanced task killer > service 6.7% Android system> foreground 2.3% eveverything else seems to be on 0% Under stats is showing CPU % in background Android apps 8.2% CPU Information user 9.3% Nice 0.0% System 6.8% idle 83.0% IO 0.0% IRQ 0.0% softIRQ 0.0% And under Alerts it says no apps misbehaving Edited October 8, 2010 by feckineejit
