Music Jumping / Skipping

Anyone know how to stop the odd music jumping / skipping which occurs ever 5 or 10 mins. The only thing I can think of to reduce this is to kill all Apps apart from the Music one. It a bit annoying :) .

im discovering the same thing with the music app which is now and again there is minute stuttering and pausing ? not very often like once every 5 mins but noticeable, you are not alone in this issue, how many other people are experiencing this ? I also tried killing all tasks, but it doesnt solve it, ive checked process manager to see if there some kinf process spike to 100% usage causing it, but this is not seen, anybody else having this issue ? lets try and narrow it down ? anyboody found a much better music app that isnt doing this ?

I have also seen this with the r3 ROM.

If you play music/ring-tones and scroll in list, you will also notice skipping. This happens regardless of whether the application is in the foreground or not, and also independent of the amount of RAM free.

I think it's something to do with the process priority myself, but I'm not sure how to change the priority easily.

I pointed it out in the Custom ROM thread but no one seemed to pick up on it. Just installing R4 now to test if the same problem applies.

Anyone found a solution to this? My music skips constantly when browsing the internet and regularly when the phone is doing nothing else. Is there a way to give the music player higher priority?

I have started to notice this is related to data transfer, everytime my music starts skipping I notice that the data icon in notification bar is active, might try a hour or two with data turned off and see if this improves the situation

Likewise here - very annoying. Problem could be anywhere though - I did look at some of the other players, but didn't particularly like the look of them. I really should try them to try and pinpoint the problem.

I've tried "Player" and that had the same problem. Having said that, it is almost identical to the stock player so it might just have the same bug.

I'm having a go with PlayerPro now. I've had a couple of skips so far but hopefully it'll be better than the stock Music app...

I have been running winamp all day with no adjustments and have not had a single skip plus its a very powerful player. very happy

If you have a quick go on your friend "Google" you will find that alot of android devices suffer this problem and the cause could quite possibly be the radio.

Some user have found that putting the phone into airplane mode stops the skipping. Unfortunately if this is the same issue as with the other devices then as yet there has been no definitive fix..

Maybe worth trying with the phone in airplane mode just to see if it is this issue.

yes winamp seems very good so far, also give you accress to winamp controls without unlocking the phone

I've got r4 installed and winamp since yesterday and I have to report that skipping is worse for me now... It is not unbearable, but it is quite noticeable. More likely to happen ask I'm scrolling in Pulse and listening to music. I doesn't seem to happen when I listen to podcasts on ACast, tho.

No way.. How did I not know you can get Winamp for Android! Jeez I'm such a noob lol

Happy to report things are better with PlayerPro (not perfect but better than Player or the stock music app) *touches wood*

It's bad on the stock Orange firmware :P Installed winamp which is better but still noticeable. Shame because for the money this seems a good handset, but even my n-gage years ago could play music without skipping.

Have installed winamp and unfortunately the skipping problem remains. I guess this an android problem not a rom problem so hopefully it will be fixed in 2.2

Looks like the problem is the Android OS as it was not able to get this very basic thing done properly :)

Never had these problems on Apple or Nokia N95

I just experienced this in winamp/Music player app/tunein, skipping every 20 seconds, I killed off some tasks to leave 81MB free RAM and it seems much better, hasn't stuttered/skipped yet.

edit: spoke too soon, it's better but still skips

Since I flashed Seb's de-orangeated ROM, upgraded my SD card to a Class 4 16GB, and increased my virtual memory to 32MB, this issue has all but disappeared. Don't know which change is mainly responsible... perhaps it's a combination of all three!

The thing that would make music skip for me, on both my Pulse Mini and my SF is when the screen rotates.

Has anyone else had the problem fixed using this? I haven't tried ROMs on my android yet, but if this makes the music usable I'd take the plunge.
