HTC Won't Boot, won't go past HTC screen, won't recover - Please Help!

Hi All,

Total noob to the foum and all things flashing/romwise, please be gentle with me :)

I have a HTC Desire which has up until recently had the random reboot issue (as seen on other forums), however the problem has turned nasty, where as the last time the phone restarted it didn't (and hasn't) got past the white HTC splash screen.

  • I can get into the Android console (vol. down + power) but this is also as far as I can get.
  • I have tried going into recovery - result: same as the above - it hangs on the HTC screen, the power button becomes unresponsive and the switch off I have to pull the battery.
  • Having not long ago backed up, I have tried factory resetting (i.e. clear storage) and this doesn't resolve anything
  • Within the console, I enter the Bootloader and the following flashes on screen momentarily
    HBOOT
    SD Checking
    Loading...[PB99DIAG.zip]
    No Image!
    Loading...[PB99DIAG.nbh]
    No Image or Wrong Image!
    Loading...[PB99IMG.zip]
    No Image!
    Loading...[PB99IMG.nbh]
    No Image or Wrong Image!

    To be clear, here are the facts;
    • The handset is Virgin Mobile Branded
    • I have NOT rooted the device (as most people have, that I have found reporting the same problem when searching the forums)
    • Because of the limitation above, I cannot connect to the handset via USB to create a Goldcard, in order to even start a reflash process. However this said when plugged in via USB, the PC recognises the HTC Bootloader, the handset recognises USB is plugged in and displays FASTBOOT USB at the top of the bootloader menu.
    • I have tried re-starting with and without the SD, with a newly formatted (FAT32) SD - all of which makes no difference.

The following is displayed at the top of the console:

    BRAVO UNKNOWN SHIP S-ON

    HBOOT 0.75.0000

    MICROP-031D

    TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101

    RADIO-4.05.00.11

    Mar 5 2010.21.12.15

Although I can't be certain, as I can't get into the handset :(, running Android 2.1 the version of the software was 1.15.405.4

At this stage I do not care about de-branding or custom ROM's, I would be grateful to just have a working phone again. Is there any way of re-applying the original/similar branded ROM without using a Goldcard?

I have found and downloaded the following, not sure if either are any use?!?

    [*]PB99IMG_Bravo_Virgin_Mobile_1.23.351.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_1

    8941_signed.zip

    [*]Bravo_Virgin_Mobile_1.23.351.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_128941_si

    ned.exe

Am I being a complete 'tard and missing something or does the handset need to go for repair.

Sorry for the long post, but any help will be gratefully received, thanks in advance ;)

You can create a goldcard and root your HTC whit the PC and flash a new rom again.

I don't know if is it possible to put an update.zip on the root of SD card with a official rom and flash it on recovery by press (vol. up + power) at recovery mode [red triangle]

Thanks, I have tried to create a goldcard previously but when entering the first command line ('adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid' ), as per guides such as http://android.modaco.com/content-page/305...nation/page/0/; it says access is denied'. Reason being I guess is that the device won't boot isn't booted and mounted.

Like I said the device recognises the USB, the FASTBOOT menu display FASTBOOT USB. And the PC recognises the Bootloader as the HTC Bootloader was recognised and Windows installed the driver automatically. I have previously connected the device to the PC via Google Appinventor so I know (or rather am assuming) the driver is there and correct.

This said, all of the methods I have seen, involve mounting the device as storage - as my device won't bootis there a way to either over come this or a alternative method?

I am considering renaming the file: PB99IMG_Bravo_Virgin_Mobile_1.23.351..........signed.zip mentioned above to PB99IMG but as this appears to be a different version to that installed on the device I am not confident in doing this. Would this work?

Mate if you've not rooted it so it's just as you bought it, send it back and save yourself time and hassle.

It's not working because you're not on Virgin FW, you're on the generic WWE ROM. Download this:

http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/RUU_...ease_122704.exe

and run whilst connected to FASTBOOT USB - it should reflash the Desire and get you working.

Also, this is the first FW that the Desire came with, there have since been 3 more revisions:

1.21.405.2

2.09.405.8

2.10.405.2

If you get it working again, it should alert you to update to the newer versions

Thanks for this, appreciate your time in replying, although it would be nice to fix the issue, since my last post I have called HTC and they are collecting the phone on Monday to take for repair. I'll leave it in the hands of the experts :)

Thanks again!

If they're picking it up on Monday you might as well have a go, can't make it any worse ;) it'll give you hands on experience too!

I'm just playing it's your phone your call. No pun intended.
