Guest Stevieblueyez Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 (edited) Have tried posting this in a few places, but not getting anywhere in a hurry. Bought phone yesterday Played with it for about 5-10 minutes looking at the apps on it (nothing serious) Unlocked so I can use it with my O2 sim about an hour after getting it. FAIL 1 - Fastboot-Windows looks to work with the r3 image to a point, then it gets stuck ******* C:\ZTE>fastboot-windows boot boot.blade.superboot.mcri.r3.img downloading 'boot.img'... OKAY booting... OKAY C:\ZTE>fastboot-windows reboot rebooting... C:\ZTE ******* But the phone stays frozen on the Green Android dude, will stay like that for hours/days until I remove the USB cable. Once I do that it reboots, but it's not rooted. Have checked the MD5 on the files and they look good. Have "unblocked" items, everything looks exactly like Pauls VID, but soon as i try the fastboot-windows reboot I'm snookered. Phone worked file after the USB cables removed and it reboots. Have tried leaving it for hours after the reboot command, but it sits there for absolutely ages. FAIL 2 Have tried to copy the clockwork image onto the SD card and went to download Clockwork RomManager , but the handset refuses to download anything from the android market. It just sits there for hours saying "Starting Download...". Orange Sim, O2 Sim or via WiFi all the same. Sits there saying "Starting Download..." and doesn't. FAIL 3 I've got the RomManager.apk file for clockwork and downloaded the SDK kit. I run the "ABD install RomManager.apk" and it starts up saying it's starting a daemon on a port, then another message to say things are going ok then it comes back to say "Error: Device offline". Every option that people suggest say that I need to either use fastboot or download something from android market to work with the clockwork image, neither of which are happenning. I read every post on all 24 pages of Paul's original thread, and I think I'm running our of ideas.Hopefully someone can recognize one of these problems and tell me how to resolve. Guest fluxcapacitor Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Tried booting without the SDcard in the phone?
Guest rjm2k Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 tried this? http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...ing-with-no-pc/
Guest Stevieblueyez Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Tried booting without the SDcard in the phone? No, not tried that. Will try that next.
Guest Stevieblueyez Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 tried this? http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...ing-with-no-pc/ I took a look at that. When it says "On the phone, Download xxxxx". Do they mean Download on your PC and copy to the SD card? or Download via Android market? Cos Android market is a lost cause at the moment as it's just sitting there saying "Starting download..." [i'm assuming it doesn't mean download the 80mb(ish) files via android]

Guest Stevieblueyez Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 I think it means download them from Pauls links, just dump them on you sdca I can see the links now been updated to clarify saying "Using the Web browser on your phone". Great thanks for the help guys. Hopefully will be free of the Orange gumph on the phone later tonight. One last Q though..."download terminal, run and su" I have an idea what these are, but any links to where to get them, don't see them on Paul's original link. Thanks
Guest G0DSPEED Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 When I first got my phone I couldn't download from the market either. I went into settings>menu>applications>manage applications Then cleared the cache for - Certificate installer Checkin Service Download Manager DRM protected content Google Mail Market Market Updater Package Installer Created a new gmail account (has to be @gmail.com not googlemail.com) Factory reset. Sorted HTH

Guest Stevieblueyez Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Thanks guys. I'll be leaving work today with renewed hope and optimism of having a better phone this evening. Nope, still in the same situation. Removed SD card, makes no difference. FASTBOOT still won't reboot the phone Cleared all the settings, did the factory rest with Fastboot..... STILL won't download from the market. The "Root without a PC" is no use if I need to get terminal, run and su from Android Market. Can someone please help?? I'll try asking again when I run fastbook-windows boot xxxxx.img do I need to have the 80MB ish .tar.gz file on the SD Card when I do it or not??

No, you don't need an SD Card in the phone at all..therefore don't need the file on it. Are you using a Gmail account on market (or any google program for that matter) or a googlemail one? If you use a googlemail one it doesn't work for some reason, so you have to change it to @gmail.com . Cheers. Paul

Guest Stevieblueyez Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Making some progress. but still on the original ROM. Managed to get onto Android Market, but nothing that I download seems to work. Rom Manager keeps telling me that I "must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed before continuing! Install the recovery through ROM manager first" then i have the option of Install or Cancel. Installs asks me to choose a handset from one of these: Huawei Pulse Mini Dell Streak Huawei Pulse Obviously this isn't one of them So I turned my attention to the "without a PC" method and still no joy. I can't get a version of Universal Androot to work. The one on android market spawns a website to download one from. When I download it, it says Parsing Error, cannot parse the package. Does someone have a version that can install on the ZTE blade? On a slightly stranger note. I was able to do the recovery flash rom and reboot the phone using fastboot-windows flash . But it still won't do the business with the fastboot-windows boot. Getting closer, but still need some help.
Guest Stevieblueyez Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Oh... and when I try to choose "reboot into recovery" from RomManager it tells me "an error occured whilst trying to run privileged commands" Also, I downloaded a telnet app and when I run "SU" is says "Permission Denied" If that helps anyone figure out where I'm going wrong.
Guest Stevieblueyez Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 FINALLY! I now have a rooted phone on my O2 sim. Found where I was going wrong: ******* C:\ZTE>fastboot-windows boot boot.blade.superboot.mcri.r3.img downloading 'boot.img'... OKAY booting... OKAY ******* That wasn't actually working. I needed to type: C:\ZTE>fastboot-windows FLASH boot boot.blade.superboot.mcri.r3.img Then I got the following: sending 'boot' (3158 KB)... OKAY writing 'boot'... OKAY Then reboot worked fine. All happy smiles now. If anyone needs help that had the same problem, I'll check back on here for a bit to asnwer Q's.
