Guest TrishaMacmillan Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 (edited) I finally took the leap and decided to root my Desire. I rooted using Unrevoked and, even though it took a few goes to work, I now have root. The problem is I'm having trouble flashing any ROMs. So far I've tried 3 different ROMs. One I made off the R9 Froyo kitchen and 2 of the MCR 3.1 ROMs, one with and one without A2SD+. The flashing process seem to go OK but when the phone reboots it gets as far as the splash screen and just hangs there. The Android splash screen in the case of the Froyo ROM and the "HTC Quietly Brilliant" one in the case of the MCR 3.1 ROMs. I'd read that first boot can take a while but I've tried leaving it for hours at a time and it goes nowhere. Pulling the battery and rebooting gives the same result. At least I can restore my nandroid backup and get back to a working phone but it's frustrating not being able to upgrade my ROM. Am I missing something? All advice appreciated. Edited October 8, 2010 by TrishaMacmillan
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 Have you tried a wipe first? Was your Desire branded (e.g. Orange) I used Unrevoked and MCR R8, and more recently MCR R9, both of which went fine. The splash took a couple of minutes (max) to go. I've only used A2SD, not A2SD+
Guest TrishaMacmillan Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 (edited) I've tried with and without wiping using ROM Manager. Also tried directly from ClockworkMod recovery without a wipe. Should I try a manual wipe from recovery? What should I be wiping? Just cache or do a data/factory reset? It's a T-mobile branded handset. Edited October 8, 2010 by TrishaMacmillan
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 I just did a Clear Storage from the recovery menu, which I'd not tried before, but it only seemed to clear some data - I still had all my apps installed. I'd suggest a factory reset, especially if you're moving from a non-MCR ROM. I had loads of issues with Hero ROMs until I did it from a clean base. I don't know why though... I find I can have a new ROM installed, apps re-installed and configured, Exchange sync'd, Google (calendars only) etc within an hour or so. If you're flashing often that might be a pain, but for occassional updates it suits me fine.
Guest TrishaMacmillan Posted October 8, 2010 Report Posted October 8, 2010 [solved] I did a factory reset from in ClockworkMod recovery and tried again and it's worked this time. Cheers Chucky.
