Guest dwattsy21 Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Hi All, I bought a San fransisco yesterday, very pleased with it, but now this morning when I tried to text and make call, neither will work. This is despite it saying that I have 2 bars of signal. I put the sim card into my hero, and it works fine, back into my san fran... and nothing working despite having signal once again. Is this a problem anybody else has had?? Will rooting my phone solve this? Or will I be better of going and getting it replaced? I'm worried if i root and and it's still not working I won't be able to return it. Cheers, Dave
Guest will7201 Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 I'm not taking the pi$$, but you have had the phone activated by Orange, yeah? Mine didn't work until I phoned them and waited until I got an sms saying all was well y'see. Will.

I presumed I didnt have to activate anything because I am just using my old contract sim that I got with my hero over a year ago. Does the actual phone have to be activated then? I was using the phone fine yesterday as well so that made me sure all was ok. I'll check the lierature that came with it... but cant be that can it?
Guest bobby-gg Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 I've the same problem, there is a post about at week back discussing it I've found if I try to use the internet or mapping whilst I don't have any data signal the then itwon't allow calls or texts in or our, power the phone down and you are able to again. Now I know what causes the problem, its still there but less of an issue. my is unlocked, rooted and running R2 and was never registered with Orange before use
Guest will7201 Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Maybe the answer is in here, have a looksy: http://tinyurl.com/38qtm3m Will.
Guest dwvl Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 I've the same problem......... was never registered with Orange before use If, like me, you bought your phone from the Orange Online Store, then they put a block *on the phone* until you activate *the SIM* over the phone. This block affects the phone's use only on the Orange network - if you network unlock it, it will work on any other network, but still not Orange's. In my case, I activated the SIM online but the phone didn't get unblocked. I then called Orange customer services, who re-activated the SIM (giving me another phone number!), but still didn't unblock the phone, and lost my £10 credit. I then contacted OrangeHelpers on Twitter, who finally unblocked the phone for the Orange network and recovered my £10 credit. Not that I needed it, because by this time I had had enough of Orange, network unlocked the phone, and defected to GiffGaff.

Your right you need to activate the pointless sim that you have to buy with it. at www.orange.co.uk/activate Cheers guys
