Guest Alien*46*UK Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Hi All, Not to sure where else to ask this, so thought I'd post here. I'm due to upgrade now and my current contract ends in a couple weeks. I am trying to decide what to do. Have had the Hero for 6 months or so, currently rooted and running Villain ROMs etc and happy with it, but I fancy something new. I have the current dilemma ... I'm stuck between the Desire, Desire HD and even the Galaxy S ... I'm after any advice towards this. I don't think size will be an issue, so what can people offer up on this? I can better contracts on the current Desire, but will be to outdated in 18/24 months time? I can get cheaper contract pre-ordering the Desire HD over the Galaxy, but will the HD be far to buggy in it's initial stages? Tempted by the galaxy, but it seems to have far to many issues, some of which look like dragging on for time and dont have the development side of things the HTC's can provide ... I just dont know where to go.
Guest tracid Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Don't think the HD would be buggy. I am running a HD ROM on my Desire and it's okay. Also, other 2.2 HTC devices (aka Desire atm) will also get the new Sense update.

I just dont know where to go. Hi there, I'm Anthony, and I have been using HTC Desire for 2 months. Have rooted, and have played around with it. Honestly, the Desire is one of the best device I've ever owned, besides iPhone 4. I also tested Samsung Galaxy S (a couple of blokes in my class have one), and I can really say that: stick with HTC. The Galaxy S is good in terms of GPU (3 times faster than iPhone 4, 4 times than Desire), CPU Hummingbird is bit faster, and the screen is better. However, I have found some issues with it. The TouchWiz UI looks very cheap compared to Sense UI. Although the chip is faster, it is quite laggy when you scroll through a page or open an app. The camera does not have flash also, so it is as if you are using last year's iPhone 3gs. I also don't like the design of it, but it just boils down to your preference. Therefore, if you can wait Samsung to update to froyo and release fixes and patches, it is a good device in general (in terms of hardware). HTC on the other hand knows how to deal with customers. Their services are satisfactory, they give you updates early and regularly. I also find that Sense UI, even used on 500-600mhz phones are quite lag free, though the graphic is stunning. The only downside of the old Desire is that, it has too little internal storage, the AMOLED/SLCD screen does not look nice under sunlight and battery life sucks. Otherwise, it is a great device. (You know you can root, flash a modaco Tom and enable a2sd+ so you can have much space to install apps, right? Or overclock ur phone to 1.2 ghz - will be as fast as Samsung galaxy s) So if you buy a phone to play games or read books or browse web, Samsung > Desire. Otherwise, Desire > Samsung. I would personally buy a Desire, if I'm into some serious gaming, I would turn my XBOX on, or use iPad to read books. Now btw Desire/HTC Desire HD. Its up to you. The latter is a real monster that can be compared to Galaxy. If you don't mind size/price then go with HTC desire HD. But remember, the old one will never let you down. And if you are scared than in 2 more years the old desire will be outdated, then even the HD will be too. The HD is just an improvement of the Desire, not a revolution, the specs are similar except for internal storage/camera/new 1ghz chip. I wonder if in 2 years time, there will be a HTC abcxyz with dual core or even quad-core chip hehe.
Guest Diggedy Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 As others have said, the Desire HD will be a better device than the standard desire but when you come to choose take cost into consideration. Its likely you will pay a lot more for the HD when its available and there will be good deals on the regular desire. The only real benefits I can see for the HD is the bigger screen and camera. The internal storage space isnt such a big one to me as rooting is now very simple on the original and seeing as the bugs with apps2sd are fixed I can use it again. Any phone with a 1ghz processor will still be good for at least another year in my opinion so I dont see the standard desire being outdated any time soon
