Guest flash2004 Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Here is some text... I tried the new skype app on my Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade) and it refuses to use the internal speaker, only speakerphone, I have pressed the speakerphone/internal speaker button numerous times (bottom left) and it just always comes out the loud speaker. This really undermines the app's functionality. Can you please fix this ? I am using Android 2.1
Guest G0DSPEED Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 I wouldn't hold your breath on this. The speaker situation has been that way on other platrforms for as long as I can remember. Same situation on my Tytn II running winmob skype app. Something to do with restrictions on software access to internal speaker hardware. If your on 3 your ok though which seems favouritism to me! G

G Skype on 3 is a different app... and it doesn't use voip. So it just dials a local mobile number (which is free if you are on 3 network). Hence you are effectively using it as a normal phonecall..
Guest David Horvath Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 I got an answer, it begins with this: "We understand your concern using Skype through a normal speaker. We will do our best to help you. In order so solve the problem, please make sure that you are running the latest version of Skype which can be found here: http://www.skype.com/download/ In the latest 4.2 version of Skype we have introduced a Call Quality indicator which should assist you in checking that your sound settings are configured correctly and show you if the quality of the call will be low, average or good." I dont even have windows... a$$holes.. they even sent me back this line: Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu/10.04 Chromium/8.0.550.0

I still haven't got any response back.
Guest flash2004 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Got the following response from Skype today -. Seems like and automated response, but atleast it is something :) "Thank you for contacting Skype Customer Service. We understand your concern regarding Skype for Android . Currently, Skype for Andriod has been designed to work on all devices that run Android Version 2.1 and above providing that the device meet the minimum requirements. But we will be forwarded this concern of yours to our development team so that it will be considered for the next release. Once again please accept our sincerest apologies, and we thank you for your patience and understanding."
Guest jt! Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 just got this back. "Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately the particular device you are using has not been tested by us and due to that we currently cannot promise that Skype will work on this device without problems. Hopefully this problem will not occur with future versions of Skype for Android. We apologize for the inconvenience. Best regards, Mihkel P." lame outcome.
Guest robot1000 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 We all seem to be getting different responses. The one I received was: Hello, Thank you for contacting Skype Customer Service. We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble in switching from the loudspeaker to the earphone piece of your Android. We recommended to please go to the user manual of your phone and read the guide lines or contact the manufacturer of your phone regarding this issue. We hope you found this answer helpful. Should you need any further assistance or have additional questions please do not hesitate to contact us again. Best Regards, Patricia Skype Customer Service
Guest flash2004 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Seems like they are absolutely clueless !!
Guest flash2004 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) Just for the fun of it, I asked them the same question again.. and here is the response which I got. It doesn't really make any sense ?? "Thank you for contacting Skype Customer Service. We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade) using Android firmware that pressing speakerphone button will not divert you to internal speaker . What we can suggest from you is to long tap press again the speakerphone button. Once number is entered user can place the call (using Skype Credit or Subscription) When number is dialed in an incorrect format warning message appears calling users attention to invalid format and giving an example for correct format. Speaker button starts speakerphone function, microphone button offers microphone mute and un-mute functions. We hope you found this answer helpful. Should you need any further assistance or have additional questions please do not hesitate to contact us again. Best regards, Emily Skype Customer Service" Edited October 11, 2010 by flash2004
Guest Horváth Dávid Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) I got this: "Thank you for your reply. We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with Skype for Android. Please note that Skype may encounter problems dues to the processor speed of your device. We are aware of this issue and are working hard on presenting an updated Skype application. We recommend that you completely remove and uninstall Skype. After reinstallation please make sure to have terminated most other applications when using Skype. If you should have any more questions or problems, please do not hesitate to contact us." Guest David Horvath Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) Gotcha :) I have. I wrotre back, got this: "We understand your concern regarding Skype on your ZTE phone. Unfortunatley we are not able to guarantee that Skype for Android runs on all Android devices. Our engineers are aware of the problem that you are experiencing and are currently fixing it. However, we are not able to tell you when or if this problem will be fixed. We will pass on your request regarding the Exit button for the developers for consideration and potential inclusion in a future release. If you wish to exit Skype completley then we suggest that you use the force stop command in your phones native Application menu. Unfortunatley we are not able to tell you if or when a new version of Skype for Linux will be released. Please follow our homepage http://www.skype.com for any news about new releases and software versions. We hope you found this answer helpful. Should you need any further assistance or have additional questions please do not hesitate to contact us again." Edited October 11, 2010 by David Horvath
Guest spicysomtam Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 This is not a Skype issue; its a handset issue. If you try Linphone, it has exactly the same problem. Thus suggest you find a solution for the phone. I have the same problem and am using the Orange original roms; wonder if the issue gets fixed if you use other roms?
Guest spicysomtam Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 I changed to the modaco r4 rom and still the same issue. I hear sipdriod does not have the issue; will try other sip clients and let you know how it goes.

Sipdroid is working fine, so it is definitely not a handset issue.
Guest flatnote31 Posted October 23, 2010 Report Posted October 23, 2010 ok, that's the fart that I got.. " Thank you for contacting Skype Customer Service. We understand that you are having issues using the Skype application on your phone. We are happy to help in any way we can. By default, when making a call, the 'handset' feature is what should be used. Unless you specify that the 'speaker phone' feature be used. The Skype application is dependent on what your phone settings already are. Please refer to your phone's manual on how to change / switch from speakerphone to handset feature. We hope this has solved your issue. Please don't hesitate to contact us again if you have any further problems or questions. Guest spicysomtam Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 I will try sipdriod! I suspect Linphone/Skype use the same technique to access the speaker hardware and they are not getting it right for a number of phones (Blade being one of them). Anyway thanks for the pointer for sipdriod.

I suspect Linphone/Skype use the same technique to access the speaker hardware and they are not getting it right for a number of phones (Blade being one of them). Anyway thanks for the pointer for sipdriod. new user here, had a 100% experience with my san francisco so far, all the way to 2.2 etc. on topic, orange rom, 2.1r3, 2.1r4, and now 2.2 all have the same problem...all sip calls+sip clients come out of loudspeaker all the time. horrible to use because the person you are speaking to ends up having horrible echo..this is really bad. I am a heavy sip user and am delighted with the phone, except for this (perhaps) showstopper for me. gone through sipdroid, linphone, 3cx etc etc, all the same.
