Guest vinokirk Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 (edited) What keyboards are people using? Fards suggested Ultra Keyboard, but I can't see it on my Market. (does anyone know why the could be?) Does anyone know of any different ones? My main one would be Swype, but every .apk I've tried hasn't worked. Has anyone got a Sype .apk that they've found to work on Froyo? I've also been looking at a load of HTC Keyboard .apk's but none seem to work. Again, had anyone got a working version of the HTC keyboard for Froyo on the Streak? I'm not asking people post any copyrighted .apk's or offer me links to them, but if you know of something that works please tell me, this stock kbd is driving me mad! UPDATE: Two non Stock keyboards now work for me: Swype - See post #23 DroidX - See post #29 Edited October 15, 2010 by vinokirk

Well my swipe app stopped working and there is no working replacement at the moment that I can see. However I just installed slideit which its just the same as swype but just not as pretty and not quite as accurate, its a happy compromise in the meantime. And its free.
Guest marra2 Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 I am also using SlideIT seems laggy though !
Guest zelman Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 I actually just made my own by modifying the example keyboard that comes with the SDK. The concept is to decrease the distance your thumbs have to reach by splitting the keyboard letters (a la ergonomic keyboards). My programming abilities are extremely limited, so any suggestions are welcomed, but may not be able to be accommodated.StreakBoard.apk.zip
Guest HoTdiGiTi Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Think i got it via a link on twitter, just tried to install it and it force closes like the swype keyboard does on 2.2

Guest flamingsamurai Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Multitouch keyboard is what the Droid X keyboard is usually called. It was my main keyboard on 2.1 but haven't tried it on 2.2 I'm using smart keyboard now, its good, and you can find it on the market
Guest popetodd Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 (edited) Ultra keyboard when I'm on the road and Liberty Pro BT keyboard when I'm stationary or on a train. I wish I had the 1.6 keyboard in the 2.x series roms though, I really liked the number pad. (whinge whinge whinge...) Edited October 9, 2010 by popetodd
Guest npspears Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Is anyone else having the problem of not being able to switch to another keyboard in froyo. I was able to switch keyboards no problem in 1.6.
Guest JimiB Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 I've found slide it to be pretty good, and fairly quick. it just seems to be huge! npspears; make sure you turn the keyboard 'on' in settins and then it should be selectable when you long press and choose input method... -Jimi

I ended up starting up a Android 1.6 emulator with Marketplace installed (plenty of info on how to do), signed into my google account and grabbed my purcahsed ultra keyboard. Pulled it off with adb and placed on my streak's sd card. Then installed via astro. A fair chunk of screwing around but it works, and ultra seems to play okay with this 2.2.

Guest gilrad Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Droidx multitouch keyboard stopped working when I upped to 2.2, this makes me very sad. :) Anybody have a working apk of the multitouch keyboard? I loved the oversized landscape view, I could practically type error-free.

Guest kwaaq Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 The trial apk for ultra keyboard. I'll assume it works too. com.binarybulge.android.apps.keyboard.trial.apk.zip
Guest vinokirk Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) getting FC errors :) In fact im getting FC errors with every keyboard i install....hmmm i think i delted t9lib.so...ill check EDIT: anyone got libt9.so??? i need it :) Edited October 11, 2010 by vinokirk
Guest vinokirk Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Hmm i dont think libt9.so will do anything, i think its a file that HTC_IME keyboard uses. Every keyboard i try except the android kbd and the android split kbd.

Every keyboard i try except the android kbd and the android split kbd. dont think its been said, but I changed my LCD density to 240 (stock evo DPI), and the HTC IME worked! it also worked at 200, then when I went back to 160, of course not, this is also probably my favorite keyboard.
Guest vinokirk Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) Ok everyone...looks like Swype is now working! Check out Calin75's method: I got it to work. This is what I did: - download the latest apk. - Using rootexplorer search for "libSwypeCore.so“ and delete it. You can also find it inside system/lib/libSwypeCore.so - Install the swype latest apk. - Enjoy. =) I'm enjoying swype as I type.
