Guest Thresherinc Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 (edited) Hey guys, Fantastic site, with loads of information, unfortunately a number of the "Want to know more? click here!" links just point back to the news page. I have a few questions with regards to the Desire. I have installed what was claimed to be an "Official" HTC Sense FroYo ROM, I have no way of knowing if it actually was the official one it came from the XDA forum. I used unrevoked3 to root my phone. For the most part it works fine, there are a couple of anomalies and now I'd like to try one of the self bake ROMS from here. My questions are... 1) Is the unrevoked3 rooting compatible with the ROMS from here? 2) Do I need to wipe beforehand? 3) Is it as simple as backup, boot to recovery mode, install from ROM? I saw the rooting guide and that's the main reason for question number 1. Thanks, Glenn. Edited October 9, 2010 by Thresherinc
Guest kayceejayh Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Okay.. 1) Yep, rooting is rooting no matter what method you use, so unless you flash an official RUU - you'll still have root.. 2) Always best to, I backup all my Apps with Titanium Backup Pro, and backup my texts to Wavesecure. When I have flashed the new ROM I restore with TB and download my texts from Wavesecure. 3) You got it! :)

All custom ROMs do not flash HBOOT, as changing HBOOT removed root, which is why kayceejayh said flashing official RUU's removed root. (You can run UnrEVOked after running a RUU to re-root though). If moving from one ROM to a completely new ROM, then yes. Usually you don't have to wipe when flashing an upgraded version of the same ROM (as long as the dev has written their update script correctly)Kind of, only you mean install from SDCard right? There's also some "best practices" you should follow. For example, when you flash a radio, flash it on it's own and reboot the phone to complete the radio installation before trying to flash anything else. Also don't get confused like a lot of people and start renaming all the flashable zips as update.zip, you don't need to do this.
Guest Thresherinc Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 Thanks guys, One more cheeky question... Is it worth flashing a new radio rom when there's one available? I currently have 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.08 I spotted in wip r9 32.47.00.32U_5.10.05.23 I'm not really sure how deep the version numbers go so not entirely sure.

There's a newer radio than .23, you can find it on XDA. I always update to the latest radio. Some people say that some radios are better for battery life or signal, etc.. i always go for the most recent one :)
