All,

Just thought I would give my experience of Froyo on my Streak for anyone who's not sure how it performs.

I didn't want to add unnecessary posts to the official Froyo Beta thread.

I was currently running 2.1

I upgraded to Froyo Beta using the Clockwork mod recovery which I installed last night (make sure you get the working version)

I have the 2.1 baseband as I didn't flash the first beta that came out.

1. Downloaded 2.2 Froyo Rom and transferred to my SDCARD

2. Downloaded and installed Clockwork mod recovery

3. Downloaded and put Steven Hydes 'build.prop' on my SDCARD

4. Titanium backed up all my apps

5. Wiped my phone in recovery

6. Flashed 2.2 Froyo

7. Booted phone for the first time without a hitch

8. Installed Androot from the market and rooted my phone (took 2 attempts to root) it might be worth dragging a copy of the .apk onto your SDCARD just incase.

9. Used Root explorer to copy and paste the build.prop into my system/ folder

10. Long clicked on build.prop and edited to change the LCD density to 160 (some games and photos look odd otherwise)

11. copied and pasted my selected choice of boot animation into System/media

12. rebooted phone

13. Titanium restored my 326 apps!

I now have a Cyanogenmod boot animation, camera works fine and DATA and GPS are perfect.

I have HONESTLY restored all of my 326 apps without a hitch with Titanium backup.

The switch from screen to screen is truly very very smooth, app drawers fades in and out perfectly and scrolling through my long list of apps is effortless, it truly is..

I have fully charged my phone and from 8pm tonight to now (22:15) I have lost 2% battery.

I haven't played with it a lot but this includes restoring all my apps from being unplugged, browsing the market a little, playing a 5 min game and reading 24 emails.

This phone is now ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

So glad I've ditched my Nexus, Desire and Galaxy S.

HTH.

Just a quick question, are you using the free version of titanium ?. I experienced no problems in the process of restoring 100 apps with the free version but the majority of them crash with force close, when I try to open them.

I concur though froyo on streak is amazing.

Yep, free version.

Try wiping and reflashing FROYO then re-installing the apps again.

Worked perfectly for me.

Working great for me as well, I am not getting anywhere near the kind of battery you are getting though.

I pulled mine off the charger at 20:00 as well and am now down to 64% with very light use and WiFi at 21:30.

The funny thing is with 2.1 my battery would act weirdly.

One day it would run out within 12 hours.

Another day it would only be at 75% after 12 hours.

I didn't install or change anything either, there must be an underlying issue but I'm not clever enough to work it out.

I suppose the next few charges and days' usage will give a better indicator.

But other than that, it works flawlessly. Froyo hands in the air! LOL.

Yeah, go over to the other thread and find page 11, you will see a build prop download.

Replace the /system/build.prop with it and reboot.

+1 Titanium backup screwed up 2.2 for me. Everything FCd when I tried to do a batch "restore all"

+1 again. Battery life yesterday was shocking. Did the airplane trick and, so far, its looking more like it did on 2.1, although still not as good

I think it's just putting the phone in Airplane mode then taking it out again.

Okay, after 1 full night my phone is at 69% from 20:00 last night.

I'm very happy with that. That's with 326 apps installed but only running, twitter, weather, facebook and photoframe widgets on screen.

Has anyone had the Streak/Froyo get "stuck" in upside-down-landscape mode? It's happened to me twice so far. Only fix I've found is to wait a few hours and wake your phone up or just reboot.

Battery life - too early to say - it's certainly not miserable, but perhaps not quite as good as I was getting on 2.1 - will wait a few charge cycles but either way it seems perfectly acceptable to me at this time.

Damn, I can't see Androot on the Market? anyone have a pointer to the package?

edit: it's OK - I found a package on the net, installed via SD card.

All looking awesome at this point! thanks to the OP for the simple checklist...

Kind Regards

Someone mention this before that androot has never been available on the market before, you need to search the web for it

I saw a post that indicated video is at 3ggp instead of 720p. This is true for my streak also.

Has anyone been able to get 720p camcorder working?

I just flashed DJ Steve's 2.2 to a dell exec's streak!! He was impressed with the fuctionality and smoothness of it. He said he had a build from dell that didnt have wifi working or something like that. Great work Steve!

WTF? Sounds like there's really not much hope for the Streak then apart from the homebrew community.

so woul do you guys reccomend updating to the froyo 2.2 beta, or should i wait for a stable cyanogenmod rom? hope it doesnt take too long although i knw steves working on it basically all on his own...

Tbh, it's Dell's first open source phone, and first dip into a new phone OS.

I can see why they make mistakes and such, especially with the whole GPL and releasing sources.

The homebrew community will always come to the rescue for the likes of ourselves.

HTC has been in the game since I first got the first XDA and even Orange SPV series, they have had a lot longer to perfect their routes in this market.

I'm not sure if you know, HTC had a PC, here the tables where flipped and HTC botched that so bad they pulled out of that market.

The device was HTC Shift.

I think since Dell have other hardware coming out that is abiding by the GPL we will see a lot better things coming out of dell :)

Just my opinion
