hi

tbh i'm new to all this stuff, but i have a desire which was orange branded. i have rooted etc and now have an official htc rom installed v 2.10.405.2.

a mate told me to find and install the lates radio rom, which i did (v 32.48.00.32u_5.11.05.14). but i have noticed a couple of issues since i've done this:

1) gps takes a lot longer to locate

2) with wifi activated i occasionally seem to loose internet connection...i.e. wifi remains 'connected' but when i go to browser it has no internet.

it seems that the latest radio rom is not always the best :)

can anyone suggest a better one?

thanks

ps all other aspects of phone seem fine

First I've heard of those issues my experience is the exact opposite! Gps is almost instant and wifi is solid. In these cases it's the ROM that's the issue so either go back to your previous radio or use a ROM that is known to work with this radio. Also make sure you use the corresponding RIL for your radio. It's basically a driver that minimises the chance of issues.

We can asume the lastest radio is always the best, but you need the RIL files that comes togheter with. RIL are like the interface between the radio and the system. If you don't have it, you'll have some problems...

You can find the related RIL here

Thanks to you both...my mate never mentioned anything about updating the RIL. i guess that's what happens when you listen to a mate who's not as smart as he thinks...but then i should have done my own research first before diving in head first :)

ok, i've downloaded the RIL from the above link...now before I dive in once again could someone confirm what I need to do next. is it just a case of putting the zip file on my sd then flashing from recovery?

is is there more to it than this (as i seem to be discovering all the time!)

thanks again

After flashing the 32.48.00.32u_5.11.05.14 Radio with the corresponding RIL onto MCR8, my battery drains more quickly. Also my WiFi suddenly drops and stays off. Or it hangs at "trying to connect to WiFi" or "obtaining IP address" forever. Just totally stopping WiFi and activating it again helps sometimes.

Im on 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14 with Leedroid 2.2a right now and its working great without the RILs (dont know which RIL version is included in Leedroid).

GPS fix is really fast; tried it and i was at an accuracy of 6m in less than 5 sec.

I lost 20% of battery during the last 11 hours with a couple (around 30 min.) of calls, surfing all synch and BT on!
