[SOLVED/HOW-TO] Can´t install any Froyo Leak

Can anyone give some instructions on getting any of the Froyo Leaks flashed on my Liquid A1/S100?

I have no problem flashing any of the Eclair Roms and I've been on LCR 1.8.2.2 with Malez 0.6

Is there any trick to get past the [Error]:Fastboot is failed?

I always get this error and my only salvation is re-installing LCR back again with Malez Recovery.

I really want to try LCR F1... dam luck...

Help appreciated!

Finally I managed to put the latest Froyo Leak on my A1!! ;)

First, let me thank all people that helped me with comments and suggestions!

What I did was this

=== Driver Installation: ===

1 - Removed my Windows 7 64 bits edition instalation (it was needing a re-install anyway :) ).

2 - Installed a fresh Windows 7 32 bit edition.

3 - Connected my Acer Liquid to an USB port and apparently drivers where installed correctly by Windows 7.

4 - I then went to "Device Manager" and found a bunch of entries referring to Android devices all marked with the Exclamation mark Signal /!\.

5 - I then remove all the entries one by one clicking with secondary mouse button and hitting Uninstall.

6 - Finally I opened "Action" on the device manager top menu and clicked on "Scan for hardware changes". This process installed all the necessary drivers automatically and correctly I think through Windows Update itself.

Note 1: Maybe just going through all the entries and clicking on "Update Driver Software..." and then hitting "Search automatically for updated driver software" could have done the trick" but i preferred the remove all way just to be sure. Try what works best for you!

Note 2: If this doesn't work try using the drivers provided here. These did not work for me as Windows 7 kept saying that could not find any suitable drivers. Could work for anyone else... just give it a try.

=== Using Acer Download Tool (aka A1_DL_Tool): ===

I used version 3.100 of ADT i found here: A1_DL_Tool_[intra][single]_v3.100_20091027

1 - I extracted the contents of A1_DL_Tool__Intra__Single__v3.100_20091027.zip

2 - Copied bin file "Acer_LiquidE_4.504b.00_EMEA-GEN1_05.01.05_A1_Pass_protect_MbD.bin" to the sub-folder "ACER_A1_Bin" that you find under "A1_DL_Tool_[intra][single]_v3.100_20091027" folder.

3 - Clicked on the "ACER Download Tool [single].exe" with the mouse secondary button and hit "Properties".

4 - I then moved to the "Compatibility" Tab and checked "[v] Run this program in compatibility mode for" and selected "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" on the selection box below. I also checked "[v] Run this program as an administrator" at the bottom of the Compatibility tab. I clicked "Apply and then OK".

5 - I enabled "USB Debugging" on my phone by going into "Settings"->"Applications"->"Development" and connected my Phone to the USB cable.

6 - Then I run Acer Download Tool accepting the "User Account Control" notification.

7 - I clicked browse to select the "Original Image file" (.bin file) we have copied into the "ACER_A1_Bin" sub-folder. I navigated to the sub-folder selected the .bin file to flash and clicked "Open".

8 - Finally i clicked Start and waited for the flashing process to terminate.

NOTE 1: Your phone will reboot a couple times and might appear to get stuck on Fastboot screen, just give it time! A green message will appear when this process has finished. You can then remove you USB Cable.

NOTE 2: If you messed up before while updating from LCR 1.8.2.2 (as i was) and are stuck on "usb_init" after flash failure just put LCR 1.8.2.2 ZIP on your SD-Card and again (if don't have it there already) and flash it with Malez Recovery. It took my phone to life again :P

Conclusions:

- Acer Download Tool doesn't seem to like Windows 64bit systems, although some users have reported success with 64bit Windows.

- You might mess up drivers because of all the different methods of installing Leaked Cooked or Official Roms.

- I found that the best way it to start over and fresh! Clean the system from all Acer Software and Drivers and re-install.

I hope this helps other people has they have helped me! :(

PS -> I tried to make this How-To n00b proof by detailing the flashing process as much as I could remenber so anyone can follow it and get their "Froyos" running.

PLEASE POST ANY CORRECTIONS OR SUGGESTIONS! I'll be glad to had them to my post.

To flash bin files you need to use the A1_DL_Tool. Flashing with fastboot will not work for you.

Thank you very much for both hints and time!

@ikirt

I am aware that I need Acer Download Tool to flash bin files. I've been using Android for a long time with HTC Magic + Cyanogen Mod and now with Acer Liquid and I've done maybe dozens of flashing procedures... I can say I'm not a complete N00b :) but this one is giving me the freaks!

The problem here is in fact with A1_DL_Tool I'm not using Fastboot to flash the bin... I get "[Error]:Fastboot is failed" on A1 DL Tool... am I being clear? Maybe I'm missing something or not making myself understood.

@HustlinDaily

I read through the thread and people suggested re-installing acer drivers after remove everything, should I try it?

Hey. Make sure it's Acer DLTool 3.1. It seems to be the version with the least amount of issues and works almost universally with any Liquid. Do the driver reinstall just to be on the safe side.

I myself have never had a problem with flashing new .bins at all so I'm just letting you know what worked for me.

Good luck.

@KingsizeX - I had the same issue trying to install a Froyo leak. I flashed 0.007 with no problems but 4.503 just wouldn't flash for me (same problem: fastboot failed). I redownloaded the BIN several times from different sources to make sure that wasn't the problem.

I didn't try reinstalling drivers though, I might try again when I get the chance.

One thing also, can you guys confirm what operating system you are using 32 or 64bit O/S's - I can't remember where I read it but the Acer DLT might have some issues with the 64bit drivers...

I've been using the 32bit Windows with no problem at all

Thanks

Hey people! Thanks for the late feedback, been busy with some school coding :)

Maybe we are getting somewhere here, I tried remove all drivers and re-install. And also using A1 Download Tool without installing any driver as I read somewhere it was suposed to work anyway.

Well... I had no sucess with any attempt!

Now what! After reading @TheShak comment I went straight to my desktop and I found I was using a 64bit version of Windows 7.

Maybe this is it?

I'll try using Windows 7 32bit edition and post my luck here.

Cya soon and thanks for all the helpful comments!

Cheers

I also had the same issue when flashed "Froyo" leak with "Fastboot is failed" in 32bit Win7. The phone will hang and need unplug USB. But it success when flashed back to 2.1 ROM.

I was wonder the bin file was crashed during dl process and will try to re-dl and test again.

I have problem too with flashing (Win7 x64 on VMWare Fusion) but everything is fine, check the screen to see what's happening to your device, as long as fastboot / baseband is updated you don't have to worry. Just wipe data if you want to dodge strange FC, or install another ROM (LCR-F is the perfect choice :))
