Guest mikeylove588 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Ok, so i've decided i want to root my htc desire. I have currently android 2.1 with hboot 0.98. My carrier is Cellular south which is VERY similar to US cellular from what i have read. Basically everything i found on rooting requires .83hboot or lower so i need someone to point me in the right direction so i can get started on my research before i attempt this. I'm a very savvy person when it comes to things like this. I flash/jtag xbox360's and wii's and pretty much everything else that can be done. Seems like this shouldn't be too hard just need a little direction to get started. Much appreciated in advance!!!

Go and download unrevoked root tool for HTC Desire. www.unrevoked.com Install drivers, connect phone, click root. Let it run it´s Auto progress and it should be done. I am unsure if unrevoked has a limit to what Hboot it can deal with. Mine was 0.75 and turned 0.80 with MCR so that´s fine, rooting it on 0.75. I don´t know if Unrevoked can handle all though, you could try and see if it can handle your 0.98 else try to contact them. I know theres a downgrade Hboot howto somewhere on the forum but I suspect it´s only for rooted devices I don´t know and doubt if that can be done on a non-rooted device. Even pauls risk-free root manual method requires Hboot 0.80 or below. So that´s not an option either for 0.93 Either contact them, or take the risk sry m8, I don´t know any way to downgrade the HBoot if it´s unrooted. Edited October 10, 2010 by Asselberghs

I found this thread very useful, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189 Once I had rooted my desire on 2.1 I upgraded via the custom recovery to this rom.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
Guest mikeylove588 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 (edited) ok so what i did was downloaded htc sync and didn't actually let it install the sync only the actual htc drivers... uninstalled BMP usb drivers... installed android 1.0 driver ran unrevoked3 got an error on the s-off installed rom manager and let it do the clockworkmod recovery and have a successfully rooted desire. Thanks to everyones help much appreciated!! about to try out the 2.1 eclair rom wish me luck!! just one question. Since i'm rooted now and my phone has android 2.1 can i use a 2.2 froyo rom without it bricking phone? !!!thanks again!!!! ok quick edit tried flashing a rom and it froze my phone at white htc logo screen on both attempts. Tried the 3.1 by paul with all additions. when in hboot the top says s-on how can i get the s-off? i have a thought that this is my reason for the rom not flashing.... or it could be my radio version... if anyone can help please pm me or post here i'm gonna be on here most the rest of today researching and trying to find a rom that works. I am able to boot up in recovery mode and restore the back up i made before attempting a rom flash. I'm a cellular south customer and have rooted and have superuser which is functional i just have not gotten s-off!!! Thanks in advance!! Edited October 12, 2010 by mikeylove588

Thanks in advance!! ok so just installed 32.44.00.32u_5.09.05.30 radio and it booted back up with no problems. So, meaning the s-on isn't causing a problem on installing roms could it of been that i didn't have the right radio version? :) well tried another rom and same problem. Went with a stock 2.2 froyo rom with the same radio i have installed in it and it froze again. S-on has to be the problem.... can anyone assist me with getting my s-on to s-off..... ok so a new update.... got a rom to boot made by another customer who is with USCC boots fine and everything with radio version 5.10.08.xx works great with 2.2 froyo no problems just extremely bare and didn't install a2sd before!!! its called blitzrom if anyone wants to try it who is with cellular south or USCC i have the cdma desire which seemed to be most of where my problems were orienting from. if anyone else has any ideas of a newer rom that might work please let me know!! also since my radio version was 5.10xx my clockword recovery mod wouldn't install the 5.09... ???? :) so that eliminates alot of roms for me... well thanks alot for all the information on the site was truely helpful Edited October 12, 2010 by mikeylove588
