Guest flapheadx Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Hi folks, like probably everyone else here, I've updated to Stephens Froyo build this weekend, and absolutly love it! However, there's one thing I'm missing badly: the original Dell status bar. I love how it gives me access to recent programs, notifications, and connectivity settings. In comparison, the stock bar feels totally useless to me. Not to mention the unintuitive necessity to slide down to open it. So, could the Dell status bar be somehow ported back into froyo? Or is there anything comparable on the market? Thanks!
Guest kupo Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 I'd really miss the Dell statusbar on Froyo :) Is there nothing ADWLauncher can do to give us the functionality we're used to?

Meh, long time android users hate the thing, as of now there's no way to implement it. Edited October 10, 2010 by jmhalder

Guest andycqos Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 I hate the dell skin so i wont be adding it back What happens if you remove ADW Launcher from your 2.2 build?
Guest flapheadx Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 I hate the dell skin so i wont be adding it back Could the statusbar alone be ported as an add-on installer? The streak is my first Android device. I use it primarily in landscape mode, which gives it so much space on the status bar that could be used more ... useful! I've been using ADW Launcher from the beginning and found both to play really well together.
Guest Stephen Hyde Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 The chances of installer are slim as dells ui is heavily built into frameworks
Guest BooToo Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 +1 Dell's bar is an horrible skin taking away the Andoid experience (not to mention the fact that it is an extra layer the processor need to deal with). Honnestly guys, just get used to the vanilla Froyo :)
Guest Amdathlonuk Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Each to their own......... Personally I like both. However I would like a BLACK status bar back.
Guest Gopu Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Each to their own......... Personally I like both. However I would like a BLACK status bar back. I would love to see the battery icon removed from the status bar

Guest Cue_32 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Found this on xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805037 someone is making a black bar! I'd hold off on this until he figures out the white font, but he's very well on his way.

That used to be handy with my old Nexus One.... could someone make that happen using Framework
Guest cowballz Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 cant believe people want the original dell status bar lol , pull down is really nice. and it looks alot cleaner,

I hated the Dell taskbar implementation!!! The only good thing was the menu that opes with the wifi/BT/data... but it can be replaced easily by a widget so R.I.P DELL Task bar! But in the interest of balance I'm sure the US release of froyo will include the Dell UI, so quite possibly not long to wait now [or then again maybe not :)] and I dont think DJ_Steve is going to include it in any of his ROMs so this may be your only option.

Wow, really emotional topic as it looks like... I don't see why so many here hate this thing so much, just as you don't seem to understand why one could like it... Anyway, I'll certainly give an official Dell Froyo build a try (should it ever be available :) ) and decide then what I like better... Cheers!
Guest RedSlug Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 The standard status bar is just too wide for JUST notifications. I like swiping down, but I also like quick access to settings. But having froyo far out weighs the inconvenience :-)
Guest popetodd Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Yeah, I liked the Dell notification bar as well, and the 1.6 keyboard. Those were two things Dell did right as far as I am concerned. But as RedSlug says having Froyo outweighs these minor inconveniences.

I don't mind it either way, it was nice to have the bar split to 3 for convenience but I'm also used to the vanilla notification from the Nexus. I have a feeling the Nexus metamorph themes will work for customization but I'm kinda worried about fudging up my Streak.

Guest fards Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I do keep going to the top left hand corner to trigger teh app drawer though :)
Guest springah Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I do keep going to the top left hand corner to trigger teh app drawer though :) lol same as with wifi on/off. i kinda dont mind the dell bar... especially with lpro/adw - you get a standard app drawer plus the bar.
Guest fards Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 quick settings (see appbrain) will give you a nice notification window you can access from the notification bar ..
Guest HoTdiGiTi Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Someones added a file and how to on xda.forum showing how to get a black notification bar on froyo only, looks pretty cool with font colours changed as well
