Guest DaneelS Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I know it's part of Paul's mod, but I'd like to use the de-oranged stock ROM that Sebastian has put togther as Paul has put in some apps that I don't need. I've googled lots, but I still can't work out how to do this. I'm sure it's easy, but I've only been using android since the weekend and I just can't work it out! Thanks!
Guest randal24 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 It's in the market, simple search and install job.
Guest G0DSPEED Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 It's in the market, simple search and install job. So if your running a stock rom how do you upgrade from the supplied version of google maps to the latest one with voice search etc? I can't find google maps in the manage applications menu to un-install it before installing the latest version? Don't want to install the latest version incase it doesn't go over the previous one and I end up with 2 installs of different versions :) Cheers G

Just grab from the market and let the phone do its thing. It'll sort itself out. Android is a very smart OS...

Guest ezablade Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Cheers, installed version 4.5.1 - I may be missing something but how do you voice search? When you press Search Maps, it should pop up and a microphone icon appear to the right of the search box, press that, then speak .... and hope... it's a little hit and miss, I've found Google can't speak Yorkshire :)

I done a google search and others have the same problem. Not sure if its because its going onto an orange branded standard rom or not. One of the reasons I wanted to get rid of the previous version before putting this one with new features on :) I know it works on the phone as we R2/r3'd my mates and obviously the voice search version is included with that image. The 'about' info is - version 4.51 (#4665) gmm-android-orange-gb Platform: android:ZTE-P729B-Orange San Francisco
Guest Davie1888 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 If you guys are using the maps icon DONT, use the navigation icon and it gives you the option to speak direction.

Guest tdodd Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 If you guys are using the maps icon DONT, use the navigation icon and it gives you the option to speak direction. You can also use the Google Search widget and say "Navigate to.........." and then speak an address or business name. I guess it should also work with contacts but I'm having problems with the speech recognition there. http://www.appbrain.com/app/voice-search/c...oid.voicesearch
Guest G0DSPEED Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Just an update, no that didn't work either. No microphone option via Navigator or any of the google search/maps apps. Anyone on a bog standard rom have the voice search option? Or is it only working on a custom rommed phone? Cheers G

Cheers G I've just realised you will need to install the App on the phone from the Android Market. It won't install from Appbrain. After you've installed the app try rebooting the phone. Then the mic should appear in the search widget. Stock Rom below.... Edited October 15, 2010 by tdodd

Guest G0DSPEED Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) Edit - Was under the impression you meant install the latest google maps from the market only - have installed voice search app and its now working fine. Thanks for your time and patience :) Cheers G Edited October 15, 2010 by G0DSPEED
