Guest peterx666 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I am currently on Vodaphone and To get cheap calls I am going to insert an ASDA SIM to go off vodaphone getting 8p/min calls and 4p texts :) My problem is that I do not quite understand how the phone stores things - I can see the SD card and regularly back up that to another 8G SD card - but I am not sure where the things like contacts are stored (when I add a new contact it gives me an option to store it on the sim card - but no option to dump everything there) When I put the new sim card in I abviously dont want to lose anything :) Without rooting the phone there does not seem to be a backup system that will backup the phone phone to make sure the new sim works - can anyone suggest anything Sorry to be a pain, but my understanding of where the phone stores thing is limited - as I understand it there is the phone itself (some sort of ROM?) the sim card (static storage) and the SDCard (static storage) Any help to clarify the situation would be most appreciated ( have the same problem with my partners Samsung when she changes. By the way does anyone know of any cheaper calls than ASDA in the UK? - if so would be interested to learn Thanks Pete
Guest fam_tornhult Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Why not stop using Sim card to store contacts? I only use my gmail account for my contacts, no problem with lost data there...

Cheers Tried what you said but no option to export ......... tried import contacts but that only allowed me to import from SIM is this because I am using firmware version 1.6 or something Wish I could do this as it would solve my problem Pete
Guest nameless' Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 If Google has added some contacts from your gmail account, then your contacts (all) should be synced with gmail. Just go to gmail (on your pc :)) --> Contacts and you should have a group "Starred In Android" or something like this, and you should have all your contacts in it. Otherwise, just go to Settings --> Accounts --> <You Gmail Account> and check "Sync Contacts" That should do the trick (Verifiy on your gmail account !) Hope this post will be useful for you :)
Guest Dona' Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Just put the new SIM and check if you still got your contacts. SIM won't forget your contacts because you take it off your phone you'll only have to put it in again to get your contacts back if you lose them :)

Guest dennerjw Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 Just look in your contacts list... if there is a "g" symbol beside them, they are stored in your Google account and will not be lost when you change sim cards.
