Guest SanFran2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Hello, first post. I have a few questions about watching videos on this phone. What format does a file have to be for it to play on this device? What converter would you recommend and what settings are ideal for it to fit the screen? Any ideas? Thanks.
Guest Afrodude Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Download RockPlayer. Not had any problems playing files with that.
Guest David Horvath Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I've used Arista to convert video, and it worked like a charm. It also has profile for Android 800x480.
Guest grogan197 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 How have others found rockplayer? i've been using it to play 640X480 AVI files and the video goes through jerky patches. Using the r2 rom on the phone
Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 For this processor power don't go over 320p so 480x320. This is pretty standard for most downloaded avi tv/film files.
Guest SanFran2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Arista doesn't work on Windows. Anyone know of a good alternative?
Guest tonemgub1 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 AVS Video Converter is amazing. Use the profile for Ipod 640x480.
Guest RottenFoxBreath Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 (edited) AVS Video Converter is amazing. Use the profile for Ipod 640x480. Handbrake, it's free, and works....again, ipod or ipod touch presets. And either Act1 or Rockplayer for media playback. Edited October 12, 2010 by RottenFoxBreath
Guest clonmult Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 How have others found rockplayer? i've been using it to play 640X480 AVI files and the video goes through jerky patches. Using the r2 rom on the phone I've stopped using Rockplayer, it was too inconsistent in its performance. Now I've started using yxplayer instead, way more consistent and plays the regular divx/avi files directly without any recoding.
Guest Gibbo501 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 I normally encode using AutoGK.
Guest Kuteguy Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Act 1 Video player all the way its the only video player I know that allows playing videos in the background - and then you can resume back into the player whenever you want.
Guest Sere83 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 (edited) All the android video players on the store are junk, I've tried them all, Act1/Rock Player/YX Player etc etc. As people have mentioned they can't properly decode video over HVGA (480x320) resolution, a normal VGA res XviD will play jerky, laggy & drop frames in all of them from my experience. I presume because they don't use HW acceleration, although I don't know. This is not really good enough when you consider the device has an 800x480 resolution screen and is more capable. For the best results use the stock video player. I use 'Any Video Converter Pro'. Choose custom .mp4 profile. Make sure you have X.264 encoder selected with AAC Audio (I use 128kbps) Then if you are encoding from a VGA resolution file I would keep the aspect ratio and frame rate exactly the same and change the data rate to around 900Kbps or 1000kbps (unless your original video already has a data rate under 900kbps, in that case keep the same) This will give you optimal results. If you are encoding from files with resolutions above VGA (like HD video) you can even go up to around 800x480. I would keep the aspect proportions the same though as the stock player has no options to change them and you don't want your video to be stretched or squashed. Any program capable of outputting X.264 encoded .mp4 files with AAC audio is fine to use, 'Any video converter' does work well though I have found, although is a little slower than some. It is also a 2 step process so make sure it has properly finished and the file extension of the outputted file is .mp4 (it encodes the video first then the audio, then muxes them together) Edited October 12, 2010 by Sere83
Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 Man above has the method! After faffing about using various different approaches it seems the best method is to H264 and maintain high quality (About 900kbps, keep resolution same so long as it's below 320p). Then (and here's the trick) use the stock Video player to play them. DO NOT use system mode in rockplayer! Now my videos play super smooth at high quality/bitrate that matches the original. File size stays about the same as the orig avi, guess you could always drop bitrate or res without losing much quality (considering the screen size and your average viewing distance you prob won't notice a 1/3 drop in res) lesson learnt - Stick to what the core system can handle for best results. Guest rak007 Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Can any one tell me what video players you use to play videos on your blade ?? I am using SS RLS5 ROM.
Guest popoyaya Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Can any one tell me what video players you use to play videos on your blade ?? I am using SS RLS5 ROM. Is the concept of actually reading the thread you posted on alien to you sir?
Guest rak007 Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) Is the concept of actually reading the thread you posted on alien to you sir? I did read the thread but you see it has been more than 6 months that last reply was on that thread. In the mean time there may be many other players / softwares come up which make playing of video files on blade easier, smoother without the need of conversion. This is the primary reason of asking what people are using in their phones and specifically on the ROM same as me as i have observed that the video play back on same player (say rock player), same file varies from ROM to ROM. Guest agpoli Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Give Moboplayer a try, it's a very good video player app :D
Guest Monfro Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) ROCKPLAYER is the best video player for Blade: it plays FLV and AVI without the need to convert the files (and of course MP4).
The files play very smooth, without lag at all.
I am using the paid version, but there is also a free version.

QQplayer is also a good player that can play FLV and AVI without the need to convert the files, but depending on rom version, the files can lag (little or a lot...i had different results with different roms).
It is free.
