Guest EMMJAY Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 I recently got the pulse (5 days ago) and have the official 2.1. the official 2.1 runs pretty smoothly, and i have no SMS bugs or delays in ringing. However I installed the FLB1 custom rom just to play around with it, and then switched back to official 2.1. QUESTIONS: Would using FLB1 use up less battery power? if so how much more in general. Would it be worth running FLB1 if i have official 2.1 running smoothly?
Guest skandigraun Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 I did not notice any significant difference between the battery usage. But FLB ROM has a lot of advantages: Flib has removed a lot trash applications, that You will not really need most probably. Of course this statement is only valid for MOST of the users, it is not sure that You belong to the MOST of us :) So You will start will more free space. The greatest value for me of FLB (and most of the custom ROMs) is A2SD. It is fantastic i have to tell. Although it slightly slows down the phone (especially the boot process), but the fact that I do not have to uninstall 5 apps to install one bigger one is priceless. Also, You can try a lot of interesting and useful stuff with a rooted phone: OC possibility in the latest FLB version, JIT possibility can speed up your phone, easy backup from recovery, installation of apps requiring root access etc. If you think that 2.1 stock runs smoothly, give a try to the CM6 mod (it is based on 2.2, of course not all features are implemented yet), TomG is working on the port, you can find it easily in the forum. You will be surprised how smooth it runs without jit and oc :) However generally the change depends only on you. If you are satisfied with the stock rom, than there is no reason to change it. Of course these custom roms come with no warranty, almost all of them have smaller-bigger bugs (just like the stock ROM). These roms are good to show you what could huawei and/or T-Mo do with your phone, if they wanted to.
Guest igor_anta Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 skandigraun put it nicely :) I just have to add that there should be no doubt as to what to install, FLB is the way to go. After some time you can switch to the CM6 Android 2.2 but if you're new to all this then not just yet. Also if you're using the stock microSD card then don't use swap and a2sd dalvik to SD option, read the Ultimate Pulse Owners Guide and you'll find it all there. My suggestion would be to buy a Class 6 microSD and starting using this phone to the fullest of it's potential. Cheers, good luck :)
Guest KenBW2 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 A little premature perhaps, but when is the next release due/expected? I just don't want to flash this and then have a new version released days after
Guest skandigraun Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 A little premature perhaps, but when is the next release due/expected? I just don't want to flash this and then have a new version released days after It is not premature to ask it. But it is premature to ask it here :) Almost everything has its relevant thread, please ask there next time. But since I am here, maybe i could answer/share my opinion with you: FLB1 is basically finished. As Fliblesan has written in it's main topic, he does not plan to create further releases of FLB1. It is quite understandable, there isn't much to add to it. It has working swap, working OC, great stability, everything you can imagine about a 2.1 ROM. I am not sure about FLB2's future, it is based on TomG's 2.2 port (a port from scratch). But recently TomG started to work on CM6 port since a lot of problems he faced during the original port are already solved in it. I think FLB2 is stopped, but only TomG and Flib can give exact, official information about it :) Take a look at the relevant threads. I think currently CM6 is the main project, you can expect regular updates on it nowadays, as TomG manages to port it, it's thread is quite lively. Also, you can always use backups :) Using a backup app makes the update process about 10 minutes long, with importig the settings and the installed apps to the new ROM version.

FLB 2 is not moving forward, flibblesan said that due to Tom G moving forward with porting CM6 there is no need for him to continue developing the rom. CM6 is awesome already, but you might wait a bit more for flashable .zip version with few more fixes, probably soon :) Cheers!
Guest KenBW2 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Oops. For some reason I thought I was in the CM6 thread. duh. Will repost
