Official 2.1 release Gmail push problem?

I have the 2.1 running smoothly, but have one slight problem.

I dont always receive the notifications instantly, because the 2G is disconnected when i put phone to sleep.

I receive the notification when I "unsleep" my phone.

How often does the OS check for new mail?

How often does the OS check for new mail?

If you are using the official Gmail application, then the messages are pushed to your phone. Unless you've downloaded something to turn the 2G off when you put it into sleep, then your connection stays on. T-Mobile in general though have terrible signal, so if a message gets pushed to the phone and your phone has no signal, then you won't be told about it until another message comes through and you have signal. Or you could just refresh your inbox.
