As per my twitter, I spoke with a supervisor/manager @DSG this morning regarding my order placed on Friday @09:30am and they could not commit to anything, no delivery dates, no confirmation of wherever they had stock, they denied these were pre-orders only, alleged they had stock, but without numbers, this means nothing.

I forgot to ask if any orders had been shipped/dispatched, but I doubt any had, otherwise someone would be posting here (at least receipt of the 2nd email etc.).

To be given the choice:

1. to wait or

2. cancel the order

... is all they could say. It stinks !!!

This is the first time I've ordered anything on-line with DSG/PCW and I can safely say it will be my last.

I'm prepared to give it until Wednesday, 24th November to find out if I'm going to get the device by the end of the week. If I have to wait another week, then I will cancel my order and take my money elsewhere.

If we want to make an impact to this sorry situation, then anyone who placed an order during the 2 hour window on Friday morning should contact DSG and either cancel their order or threaten to cancel at the very least.

Then the "shills" may sit-up and listen and understand the true force of viral marketing !!

That's my 2 pence worth on this whole mess ...

Threatening to cancel your order is cutting your nose off to spite your face though really. We all want one of these asap and if we cancel someone else will snap them up and there may only be a limited supply to start with. It will make very little difference to DSG.

This has been an extremely cynical ploy to commit people's money to stop them buying something else somewhere else in the highly competitive run up to Xmas. Simple as. It sucks but at least we're in the queue. Stepping out of it while there are potentially thousands of others who'll step in isn't going to help much.

It happened with the Wii a couple of Christmas' ago when a friend was looking for one for his girlfriend. Now, not an expert in e-commerce, but if you have stock of X you tell your systems you have X to sell and once X payments are processed they are sold out and system should refuse to process any more orders or at least make it pre order or list it as sold out.

However more than a few websites (including High Street names) took orders on 'expectation' of stock arriving (which, naturally they regretted to inform that the supplier had let them down B)) and others had a small number say 150, but took 3x as many orders before making it 'sold out' or 'pre-order'.

It seems to happen quite a bit at Christmas time.

Totally agree ........ unfortunate that we got caught in the trap but I think the best thing to do is sit tight and wait for a despatch email. I will put it down to experience and will be very weary if the same situation arises in the future ...... currys/dixons/PCWorld will probably be my last port of call for future purchases from now on.

Dsg quote on slashgear

The first shipment of Advent Vega tablets was made available at the start of business today on the Currys and PC World websites, and sold out nearly as quickly as ‘Take That’ tickets. We are expecting more stock and bigger shipments over the coming days which we will be rolling out as quickly as possible to all our stores in time for the busiest Christmas shopping weekends in December, starting with Currys and PC World megastores at the end of next week.”

Another quote on engadget

Update: We've touched base with PC World and Currys in the UK, and both reckon that it'll be "another week or two" before stock is replenished.

Am I missing something here? thats all fair and well there saying when "next" stock due but what about the supposed stock that we have purchased on the basis of?

Am really peeved as we are all that so much of our time has been spent awaiting stock of this product, the dismay when release date kept changing and the frantic rush to checkout when it became available and now more waiting in limbo. Why should we have to go looking for answers when its them that should be on their knees.

The sad thing is that as much as it pains me to not cancel my order all this has led me to want the vega more....

More likely it's a December delivery for those pre-ordered Advent Vegas then?

If only DSG/PCW had a more honest and upfront approach like the EXPANSYS guys:

We'd probably get more sense out of them as it looks like their device is also based on the P10AN01 same as the Advent, but with a better casing?

BTW - so far the number of people who've received a confirmation email sits at 1 but, this may have been confused with an email selling viagra - after all, didn't we get stiffed!!! LOL.

No, if you want to make an impact but don't want to cancel your order (and why should you), you have a couple of choices - either the Office of Fair Trading, your local trading standards, the press or the internet.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) won't deal with your specific problem but they will deal with more generic trading issues. Why do i believe they would be interested? Well the Distance Selling Regulations (DSR) guidance o businesses states :-

The DSRs say that you must provide consumers with clear information so that they can make an informed choice about whether or not they wish to buy from you.

I am not a lawyer (IANAL), but selling stock they don't have, not knowing when the stock they are selling will arrive, and not stating this on their website doesn't really allow consumers an "informed choice", does it?

Now this will not help with your current problem, but if enough people complain to the OFT then they may just investigate and hopefully do something to prevent such practices in future.

The local standards trading should be able to help you and may well contact DSG directly (especially if enough people in an area complain to them) but realistically it won't make the container carrying them (the Vega's) arrive any quicker. The best you can expect is to make DSG realise that people won't accept this level of dis-service and may be an honest statement about the situation from them.

Finally, did you know companies can subscribe to a feed of any news (in any medium) articles that names or relates to them? DSG will react to negative publicity regardless of the source, so blog, You-tube, post and twitter away if you do want to make an impact. Don't believe me? Then check this link which relates to an American Airlines complaint. Pity no-one recorded their conversations with the DSG sales staff.

Got my confirmation too. The only problem is they're using DHL and they can never find our flat so I'm going to have to watch the delivery status go to "unable to deliver" with some incorrect statement such as "no one home" and then go and get it from the depot myself!

I bet someone at DSG is breathing a sigh of relief this morning if they gambled on the stock being available soon.
