Hi Folks,

Due to resources and commitments to get our global customers the 2.2/Froyo update by the end of the year, we will not be publishing another version of 2.1 nor will we be pushing out 2.1 to additional customers.

I know many of you have requested that we publish specific dates for Android OS updates; however, because there are so many variables (some outside of our control), we cannot make a specific commitment other than we will be publishing 2.2 by the end of this year to all of our Dell Streak customers. I can tell you that our target date is NOT December 31st. In fact, the over-the-air update to 2.2 is target date is much sooner than that.

Please stay tuned here to the Mobile Devices Forum board announcements or follow @DellCares on Twitter for more information.

Thanks again for your feedback,

Amy

Good News -- thanks!! But, It's kinda like who cares at this point. Me and my Streak we are rolling with Stephen now. I wish them well and true it will be useful to the mod community when-EVER they release it. I chalk this up as another Dell swing and miss at something they controlled from the start. Why keep holding back? FYI--- the Streak is supposed to be available at Bestbuy stores late October or early November I've been told.. I'm wondering were they going to release it with 1.6? WOW that would be something --- So again it's "Study Long,Study Wrong" :)

Who cares now dell, someone beat you too it. I think you should take your time and get it right. It should of been released with 2.2 and maybe the Streak might of won phone of the year or gadget of the year instead of cr'apple, just MHO

Keep in mind that Dell has to test its releases for a much less forgiving audience than the users on this site. Most users aren't willing to go through what we are to root and install a custom, unsupported OS. In addition, their carrier partners have to bless everything they do. It's a lot more red tape than an individual hacker has to deal with.

Agreed that this has caused the hold up. For example, what say official froyo has tether/wifi hotspot options removed?

Yeah, I actually put most of the blame on the carriers. Dell got bullied really bad by the carriers because Streak was their foray into mobile phones so they wanted to dip their feet in slowly and carefully. By doing that they wasted the amazing potential that the Streak has. What a shame.

I'm hopeful though that they will at least come out with a solid 2.2 release, whenever that may be.

Here is a thought... The Streak has a Snapdragon and 512MB of RAM right?! So, in theory, they can (and should, it'd be awesome) update it to Cupcake when available. Steve, will you be working on a 3.0 port when available? That'd be stellar!

Besides, I'm sticking to Steve's way of doing things. I like stock software better than Dell's... Maybe they'll improve it. I wanna use the freaking phone in portrait sometimes, Dell!

Cupcake? You're wanting to downgrade it to a firmware below what it shipped with?

I'm Keen to see the dell build, despite the naysayers I think they did a great job with 1.6

Vanilla or not there's always plenty in official releases to use to fix issues in custom Roms

Of course having the full source code to hack and abuse would be better.

Even better would be to have their devs work with us to make this awesome device world class!

What amaze me still is that a guy like Steve was able to come up with a fairly good functioning version of Froyo in what? 3 weeks of part time work?

So imagine what Dell should have been able accomplished theoratically with their financial resources since they had the Streak in project???

Releasing this device on 1.6 was unacceptable and I am glad that it ran Android allowing alternative Rom to be loaded.

Dell proved (again) that they should stick only to what they do best - The Hardware!!!

Not detracting in the slightest from what Steve has achieved (tremendous effort), you have to remember that the Dell developers will be following a software development life-cycle of some sort. Reviews, documentation, formal test etc. After the embarrassment of the botched 2.1 release I should think that they aren't taking any chances with the 2.2 effort.

All that said, if the official 2.2 is as bad as their 2.1 effort then they want their arses kicking.

In all honesty, I haven't read anything whatsoever on this forum to suggest the slightest possible reason why I should upgrade my perfectly working Streak which is running under 2.1 unoffical. I'm going to wait for a 2.2 official release. Nothing written on here has mentioned one single benefit of upgrading to Ferodo or whatever it's called. All I have read is a whole load of heart ache and hassle for no return. Truly a case of 'All pain, no gain'.

I talked to an exec at dell 2 days ago and he said he had a streak at his office running their 2.2 build. He worked with my company in putting on the Congress Ave Mile in Austin, TX, where they had released the US Streak for beta testing. I was flashing one of my coworkers streaks to Steve's 2.2 when he came in and we started talking about it, and thats when he had asked to play with my streak to test out the 2.2 and see the difference. He then proceeded to ask if I could flash his daughter's streak to steve's 2.2! He didnt say much about dell's 2.2. He was, however, playing with Dell's new windows phone which is a slide phone.

One good Reason is Flash.. to be able to run videos and BBC IPlayer is a Winner.

A WP7 port would be pretty awesome too, Metro UI looks tasty!

Totally agree! Just got my streak flashed 3 hours ago from 2.1 to 2.2!

The main difference is SPEED when it first boot up, flicking the screen sides to sides is so SMOOTH compare to 2.1.

Now just noticed the 2.2 does flash as well LOL! totally forgot about it now I'm playing miniclip flash games plus I can watch BBC iPlayer.

Just epicness lol
