Google image search with exact size is always good way to start...

There are several forums with device specific wallpaper threads too.

HTC Desire and Google Nexus 1 have the same resolution screen, any wallpapers made for them will be spot on.

Try the Zedge application from the Android Marketplace. They run a free site that deals with ringtones and wallpapers, and their app is a fantastic tool to find great wallpapers.

They don't need to be the right size, you can crop them to fit. Just go to any wallpaper site and use a aspect ratio which is close to 960x800.
